The Willie Lynch Letter

After reading the Willie Lynch letter and "How to Make A Slave", one can easily conclude that the same things are still going on today. They are going on today, but in a more moderate fashion.

Slavery didn't end 00 years ago because if it had then why are we still experiencing the same things today? Some of the points given on "How to Make A Slave" are still being used today in 00. The white man wants you to trust, love, and respect only him, but why? He wants you to be this way so that we can be against each other. He wants you to believe that we are all different, when in all actuality we are all the same on the inside. He wants you to think that you are different because of your color, sex, age, size, fine hair, coarse hair, tall, or short. These are just some of the stereotypes that they wants us to believe. How can you define "fine hair or coarse hair"? I was brought up to believe that hair regardless of its texture it is still and is always going to be hair.

In the letter something was mentioned thanking us for buying Donna Karan, Nike, and Tommy Hilfiger. You may not like some of these designers, but mentally we are slaves for them. Society wants us to believe that material and designer brand names are the best quality in clothing, and we are willing to do anything just for a name. When you are buying those designer clothing, do you think about the little boy or girl, young man or young lady who is over in another country paid only $1.00 just to make that shoe that you are going to pay $50 for. I don't know if you have realized it or not but that's slavery also in a more "moderate fashion". Help with essay on THE WILLIE LYNCH LETTER

In conclusion, yes I do think that this economic structure still exists in many different countries including the United States.

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on October 5, 1881 to Maria Picasso

Lopez and Jose Ruiz Blasco. His father was a teacher and an artist. He is one

of the most famous artists in the world. When he was young he amazed his

friends by drawing pictures without looking at the paper and without taking hisOrder custom research paper on Pablo Picasso

pencil from the paper. He was a student under his father for a while. By the age

of 15 he was technically skilled in drawing and painting. He also explored

sculpture, ceramics and other art forms. There was an original style to his work

which evolved throughout his career, making him one of the most influential

artists of the 100s.

Picasso took many risks in his life. When the Nazis said that artists could

not use bronze to create statues he defied them and continued to use it. He was

also a very possessive individual, and held love/hate relationships with his

friends. Piscasso was also superstitious, sarcastic, and did not treat his children

or women in his life very well.

While he was not a mathematician, philosopher or innovator, his works

especially cubism showed how much of a thinker he was, putting him in

Einsteins category. While his work may not have showed a good talent for

mixing and use of colors, like some other artists, you could feel his work.

Picasso painted they way he say and felt things, but the way he saw

things wasnt always the way they were. He was very creative and had a deep

passion for his work, and he kept working till his death in 17. His works were

in stages, some of which were reflections of what he was going through in his

life. His blue period which was from 101 - 104 depicted forlorn people

painted in shades of blue, which might send a message of sadness, and was

around the time of his sister Conchitas death from diphtheria. His move to Paris

in 104, and made friends with Fernande Oliver. Their relationship went well

and was reflected in his work, for from 104 - 105 was said to be his rose

period. By 107 he and another French painter opened the doors to what we

know today as cubism. In 11 he started adding things like newspaper prints,

stamps and other material into his work, creating a style called collage. By the

late 10 his work turned militant and political. Following World War II, this

style and period lessened for him, and he spent the nest few years redoing work

of other artists from earlier years.

Picasso died on April 8, 17 at his home, Notre-Dame-de-Vie in Mougin,

France, and was buried two days later at his castle in Vauvenagues

The failure of prohibition

In 1 the prohibition laws were cancelled. Source A is written by the president of the American federation of labour, Samuel Gamper who is addressing the senate committee inquiry into prohibition. This tells us a, few things already. Firstly it shows that a committee had been set up to inquire about prohibition showing that already, even in 1, when this speech was made, people were wondering whether prohibition was a good idea. The fact that Gamper was able to speak to the committee shows that the committee was aware that there was a problem and so were willing to listen to people's points of views. The fact that the speech was made so early, just after prohibition was introduce shows that right from the start, it was obvious that prohibition was going to an had already caused some problems. The speech itself claims that not allowing American 'a glass o beer' causes industrial unrest and unhappiness. Gamper also claimed that radicals in Detroit were gaining support from the factory workers. Lastly he states that prohibition and other unfair laws were bound to breed communism.

Source b is by a historian written in 17 discussing why wealthy business men opposed prohibition. The historian writes that taxes collected had risen considerably and therefore the businessmen whose opinion may have been valued due to their influential positions

, thought that if legal alcohol as well as its tax was restored, the tax burden would be gone. He writes that they estimated that alcohol tax would be enough to pay off the entire debt of the USA in les than 15 years.

Source c shows a picture of an anti prohibiton demonstration. This shows that many people felt strongly about this issue and were willing to publicly protest about it. Their points of protest include the fact that foreign vassals are profiting from Americas tourist trade; that prohibition is running our merchant mantle; four million soldiers fought for liberty and their reward was to have prohibition implemented which was unfair an that there is nothing with which o care for American crippled soldiers.

Finally source d shows a newspaper cutting. This tells that there is obviously enough controversy about the prohibition issue that a newspaper is willing to feature bias views on the subject. This particular article puts forward in a sarcastic manner, the points that prohibition is ineffective, it creates crime within the USA and it is wasting money.

To conclude, there were many reasons why prohibition was repealed of which those above are a few examples. We also know that the brewers were against prohibition because it cost them money and put them out of business. Immigrants resented that they could no longer drink when they came to America. Hotel owners were angry about the business they were loosing. Many leagues such as the AAPA were set up against prohibition. It was found that even some women were anti prohibition.

Is it humanly possible? Is it even conceivable that my Desdemona…my sweet and gentle wife…could betray me? My heart beats like the thunder of a storm and my eyes embrace her beauty. But now, the cold touch of jealousy and hatred pumps through my veins like a river. Now my Desdemona is but a shell to me…a shell of my wife and of the one she now sleeps with…that snake Cassio. The venom of his passion as a young man has poisoned my loves soul and poisoned her life. I just think of how Cassio and Desdemona talk and plan behind my back. But the thought that they could be together in bed…the very thought of that revolts me. Oh Desdemona, why have you done this to my life? Have I always been faithful to you? And Cassio. Why do you betray me after I gave the honourable lieutenant rank to you? But Iago is right. Now I must not wait any longer. Cassio and Desdemona have betrayed me and now I must kill them both. Iago has volunteered to kill Cassio whilst I plan on how to murder my Desdemona. God, why do you have to be so cruel? I cannot murder my wife, yet I must. The evidence…evidence that I have seen with my own eyes…speaks against her louder that what ears can hear. Must I kill her? I must I know. But how will I kill her? I must go beyond my love and look at the treachery that has taken place here. I know that I can only trust Iago now. Is anything as hard as this? She has lost my favour…she who once was an angel but is now a demon…she whose love bathed her in light but her treachery veils her in darkness…she whom I thought I knew now someone I doubt. It must be done. For me. For any future husbands that she might have after I perish. But how? She has deceived me and now must pay the ultimate price…death! May God in heavens realm guide me to do what is right. The time draws near as I bid farewell to my wife. I know for certain now that, even though I still love my Desdemona, I must kill her. Cassio be damned! You have turned my wife against me! Death being on her doorstep, and you caused this you fiend! Why, why, why? I give you both my heart and you crush like a crushed grape. My heart yearns for your love Desdemona, but my handkerchief has fallen into Cassios hands. Desdemona…you are a whore for doing this to me. You are a whore for betraying me. Iago has stood by my side in all of this. He is a loyal servant and friend. But now I must remove this cancer that eats away at my heart. I must kill Desdemona. Cassio shall die this very night and Desdemona soon after. So I pray now

My lord in heaven. Watch over me now as I correct a wrong in the name of right. May you love and spirit guide me in the actions I take tonight. May you righteousness be my shining light. I pray now. Amen.

Desdemona. I love her. I need her. But she has betrayed my life, my heart. With her last breath she will know her wrongdoings and confess her sins to me. Now, as I walk up these winding stairs to her room, I wonder Is this the right thing to do? I must do it for my names sake…and for hers. May I know the truth tonight.

May Gods hand be on me always.

Othello

Her long, soft, golden retriever yellow tail swoops from side to side like windshield wipers, trying steadily to clear the rain. Her neatly trimmed yellow paws leave the ground again and again as her fifty-five pound body jumps up and down almost at a rhythm. Drool runs down the sides of her wide open, panting mouth like water running out of a faucet. Finally, the anticipation over comes her. She lets out a long, loud, heavy bark. I pull the treat out of my pocket. She snatches it from me almost swallowing my hand whole. Receiving a treat is my dog Madison's favorite part of the day.

Once Madison is satisfied from her snack, she searches for the most comfortable piece of carpeting to rest on. She slowly paces around the house like an elderly women taking a leisurely stroll around the block. When she finds a spot to her liking, she uses her front paws to dig what seems to be an imaginary hole in the floor. She wastes no time and collapses on her newly found spot. She looks curiously at me with a question in her eyes. "Is she going to pet me?" I lie down on the floor next to her and run my hands along her soft, fluffy coat. "Good girl Madison!" I say to her, as she contently wags her tail. Eventually she falls asleep. Her gold, curly eyelashes bat back and forth as she dreams of herself in Milk Bone land.

Next, she is suddenly awakened by the sound of the doorbell. She jumps up as fast as a snake catches its prey. She frantically runs to the door to see who it is. She growls trying to sound vicious but not succeeding. As I open the door, Madison slightly tilts her head, anxious to find out who it is. She instantly lets down her guard, as she realizes that it is only Grandma.

Finally, Madison sits at the front door like a statue. This indicates to me that she has to go to the bathroom. "Madison, do you want to go outside?" I ask her. She pops up like a jack in the box and wags her tail "Yes!" I open the door, and she bolts out to the grass. She does her business but not before rolling herself around like a soccer ball in the grass. Her brown nostrils flare as she sniffs the air to see who has been around. I kneel down, and she runs over to me and gives me a long, wet lick on the face. She begins to pick up the aroma of the cool, crisp air around us. I talk to her like a baby, and she lies down on the grass and rolls over, telling me to rub her belly. The hot yellow sun shines brightly on her and accents her golden coat. She gets up and runs to the door. Madison thinks that it is time for another treat.

In the eighteenth century, the people of Europe began to open their eyes and see past the religious, political and philosophical dogma that had been blinding them for almost a thousand years. This era is now known as the Enlightenment and is a turning point in history that transformed the ancient world into its modern state. The fore-runners of this movement were artists and writers whose ideas, by way of their works, spread across the European continent and into other parts of the world. A country that symbolizes this movement is France, the home of the philosophes. The French novelist Voltaire satirizes certain institutions and beliefs in Candide in order to spread his messages across the globe. In his most famous work, Candide, he tells the tale of a young man's adventures across the globe in search of his true love. While the title character travels, he learns to reject certain parts of society and the social structure. In Candide, Voltaire satirizes philosophy, romance, and religion.

Pangloss, a "professor of metaphysico-theologico-cosmolo-nigology" (l.1), is a strong believe in the optimistic philosophy. He and his philosophy are as absurd as his title throughout the novel. He believes that things cannot be otherwise and that all is for the best. Upon his arrival in Lisbon, he and Candide witness an earthquake in which the city is left in ruins. To explain the phenomenon, Pangloss says that "it is impossible that things should be other than they are; for everything is right" (p.11). This gives the reader the feeling that Pangloss in foolish because the deaths of thousands of people cannot be for the greater good. The philosopher is hung at a auto da fe but does not die. A surgeon purchases his seemingly and wakes him up during an operation. After he reaches Constantinople, he enters a mosque and, because he is Christian, is arrested and forced to work in the galleys. Despite all of the things that happened to him, Pangloss still maintains that this is the "best of all possible worlds" (p.87).

Candide is madly in love with Cunegonde, the daughter of the Baron of Thuder-ten-Tronckh. In Candide, romance is what is the main cause of the characters' hardships; in short, love is painful. In Chapter I, Candide and Cunegonde kiss and are caught by the Baron who chases Candide from the castle with "great kicks on the backside" (p.), while Cunegonde is boxed on the ears by the Baroness. It is this great love which causes Candide to kill the Jew and the Inquisitor in Lisbon and to attempt to kill Cunegonde's brother in South America. When Candide finally reunites with his love in Turkey, he is, ironically, no longer in love with her and is "seized with horror" (p.8) by her ugliness. Furthermore, he no longer considers her to be a woman, but rather an "object" (p.8). This shows that love is but a childhood fantasy and not long lasting. French romance is also satirized in Candide. The French are inconsistent as far as love goes and quickly forget past romances. The Marchioness of Parolignac is shocked when Candide does not fall in love with her for "a Frenchman would have said, 'It is true that I have loved Miss Cunegonde, but seeing [the Marchioness], I think I no longer love her'" (p.61).

The country of El Dorado and the customs of its people bring about a religious debate that dates back to the time of Luther, Calvin and Zwingli. In El Dorado, the people "do not pray to [God for] He has given them all they need" (p.44). Furthermore, all of the county's inhabitants are priests and there are no monks who "dispute, govern, cabal, and who burn people that are not of their opinion" (p.44). The Inquisition is also a subject of satire in Candide. In Lisbon, the Inquisition captures various people in order to preform an auto da fe. The reasons include marrying one's grandmother, rejecting bacon which larded a chicken, speaking one's mind, and listening with an air of approbation to a philosophy the Inquisition rejected. In Constantinople, Pangloss enters a mosque and picks up a bouquet of flowers that a woman dropped, is identified as a Christian, and is ordered "a hundred lashes on the soles of the feet and sent to the galleys" (p.81). Therefore, the Roman Catholic Church, the Inquisition, and Islam are satirized in Candide.Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Satire in "Candide"

Diction, exaggeration and symbolism transport the reader into Voltaire's eighteenth century world. The reader is made to reject the philosophy of optimism, think badly of love at first sight and romance, and to look at the Church and Inquisition from the author's perspective. Voltaire is very successful in bringing his point across to the reader and his work was one of the major influences on the Enlightenment and its followers. The works of Voltaire and his colleagues were a driving force in the formation of modern society. Voltaire, Francois. Candide. Trans. Anonymous. Ed. Stanley Appelbaum. New York Mineola, 11
