Benzene

In 18, Mr. Michael Faraday, an English scientist, was the first to discover benzene through his investigation of heating and illuminating oils from it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August Kekule found benzene in the coal and came up with "the hexagonal structure" for benzene shown to the right. The story behind this structure is that Kekule one day took a nap and dreamed of the chemical structure of benzene. He mentioned there were long rows, sometimes more closely fitted together, all twining and twisting in snake-like motion. But look! What was that? One of the snakes had seized hold of its own tail, and the form whirled mockingly before my eyes.

Scientists spent a lot of work to know more about benzene. Benzene is an aromatic molecule that is similar to the hydrocarbons like alkanes. Most aromatic hydrocarbons are based on benzene.

The play 'The Club' written by David Williamson shows relationships of the characters through the dialogue and an example would be between Laurie Holden and he's relationship with Ted Parker.

From the beginning of the play you can tell that Laurie cant stand Ted through the prejudice shown in Laurie's dialogue (pg 1) 'I resent the fact that he's [Ted] come into the club with no background and no experience and carried on as if he's God almighty' and (pg 16) 'He's [Ted] never played a game of football in he's life'. Laurie uses the press to show how much he hates Ted by blaming he's resignation on the club president and also criticising about Ted to the press as well. Ted is obviously upset and he want's answer's answered (pg 10) 'He's [Laurie] called me an autocratic… he better come up with some evidence' Laurie responds with sarcasm (pg 10) 'I wouldn't know where to begin'. Laurie is always jumping down Teds throat and is always calling him a 'clown, little cretin and an owner of a meat pie factory (in a derogatory manner)' Laurie also calls Ted by his last name which in this play means aggressiveness and they are also distancing themselves with the use of the surname (pg ) 'Parker……… shut up, Ted, or I'll thump you'. Laurie gets the news that Ted has got into a lot of trouble with a stripper, which is obviously bad publicity for the club. Laurie uses this to his advantage and he ironically says to Ted (pg 60) 'They don't need you any longer, Ted. If they don't need me they'd sack me too.'

In the Stan Zemanek UE Radio Talk Back. Stan has the power because he is in control of the switch and he can switch it on or off whenever he wants and he uses this to his advantage. Whenever the caller starts to make sense he interrupts the caller by changing the subject and talking about nonsense ' we have 100,000 round holes can we fit 150,000 round pegs into them'. In the beginning Stan calls the caller a 'dill' but when he finds out that the caller is only 17 years old Stan bags the caller because he thinks that just because he is older he is much wiser and he calls the caller even more names like 'idiot, wretched little soul and misguided person'. When the caller attempts to take control by using economic jargon 'structural problem. It's a medium to long tem…' Stan interrupts with sarcasm 'Oh, please' and he shows he's power by immediately cutting the caller off.

During an interview between Launch magazine and Eminem. The language Eminem uses would absolutely shock the audience 'I banged a couple of chicks' he also uses slag 'really sucks in the scene' there is also of repetition 'its different…it takes you back it takes me back… So, it's different' He also swears when it's uncalled for 'The fucking world is my cousin'. He's fans expect this kind of language because all of he's songs have bad language in it and the language he uses is exactly like teenagers and most of he's fans are teenagers.Cheap College Papers on the club- the power of dialogue

As we enter the 1st century many new issues and problems have to be dealt with, one concerning issue is that of Money and Wealth and how these material things are causing greed and shaping how we act as human beings. This issue can be seen through many texts, namely the book, The Great Gatsby, and the film, Citizen Kane, and it was only after reading and viewing these texts that my eyes were opened to the issue. The issue is also evident in many current affairs today and highlights how money and wealth have today become more important than individual qualities such as kindness and generosity. It is important, especially in todays society, that we take hold of such an issue to prevent ourselves from becoming too materialistic and remembering what really is important, rather than living only to have money and become wealthy.

Upon reading the text, The Great Gatsby, I was able to see how the issue of money and wealth leads to greed and has today become more important that personal qualities which make us who we are. Although many may believe that money and wealth is the key to a happy life many others would have to disagree. In the text, The Great Gatsby, the audience is forced to believe or at least think that to be successful or happy, one must be rich. This idea is conveyed many times throughout the text. One example is the fact that when the main character, Jay Gatsby, firsts meets Daisy he cannot marry to her as he is a poor young solider and she is a wealthy women. Later on in the text when they meet again Jay has become wealthy, and they then consider marriage and take part in an affair, suggesting that only because Jay is now rich is he fit to marry a women such as Daisy. Is this how we want our world to work? Is it fair that we judge people, not by their own personal qualities, but by the degree of their wealth?

Another text that arises concern to the issue of money and wealth is the film, Citizen Kane. This text too suggests that money and wealth leads to greed and certainly influences the way people act as money and wealth are considered more important than personal qualities. This is conveyed as the main character, Citizen Kane, is unable to love or be loved, because his money has made him who he is and has taken from him the ability to look for or even have himself personal qualities which make people who they are. At one point in the film he even says himself, If I hadnt been very rich, I might have been a really great man, suggesting that his money and wealth has denied him from becoming a good person.

Personally, I believe that money and wealth does not entirely lead to greed and a materialistic view, but I do believe they play a large part in triggering and sustaining these alternative qualities and views. A prime example of how money and wealth has triggered greed and a materialistic view is Bill Gates, also known as the Microsoft man, one of the richest people in the world. Instead of playing fair Bill Gates has monopolised the computer software business by stealing other people ideas and incorporating them into his own Microsoft software. By doing this he is not only being greedy, something of which that money and wealth has made him do, but he is denying others of what they deserve through his greed for even more money and wealth.Buy cheap The 21st Century - Has money and wealth taken over? term paper

As we continue to progress into the 1st century we must not let money and wealth rule our way of thinking and acting. As important as money and wealth are in todays society we must remember what really is important and not let money and wealth take away our own personal qualities.

Please note that this sample paper on The 21st Century - Has money and wealth taken over? is for your review only. Useful data relating to product attributes preferences can be obtained by using various methods of product research. Product research can be conducted on existing products or new products before or after its entry in the market. It can be done by various ways and the important commonly used methods of product research are;

Paired comparison tests, rank order test, rating scales, or statements concerned with likes and dislikes. The latter usually involves using a semantic differential test. Regardless of method employed, the objective is to obtain consumer preference measure and opinion for each salient product characteristic features, product attributes as well as for the overall product.

The following data gathering techniques pertaining to Product research are discussed below.

1 Staggered Comparison Test

Write my Essay on Data Gathering Techniques pertaining to Product research for me

This test is used to test several products in sequence form i.e., one after another. The respondent is given one product at a time for examination and use purpose. Later on he is asked to give his opinion about the product along with intentions to purchase and preference value. After some time, respondent is given second product and is expected to give his opinion. While testing the products, it is ensured that the consumer does not receive two identical products at one time and the identities of the two products are kept secret. This process is continued until all products have been tested by the respondent.

This method is based on actual testing of the product under real life situation, its supplies fairly accurate data on consumer response and opinion. However, this is a costly method and there is a possibility of the influence of the first product falling on the next product.

Monadic Use Tests/ Ranking method

The respondent or member from the selected group is given a sample of the product for examination and use purpose. Then the respondent is expected to rank or rate the product on intention to buy, preference and attitudinal scale. The respondent is also given different varieties or versions of the same products or leading competitive brands for testing purpose.

This is a simple method to execute. It allows comparative evaluation of the different versions of the same product in a short time.

Paired Comparison Test

This method is also called as "Comparative Use test." This method offers two products of the same variety but having some difference in taste or color at the same time to respondent for use purpose. Afterwards, the respondents are asked to give their views, opinions, preferences towards both the products.

Paired comparison test is quite common in test marketing or experimental type of research. The purpose of this method is useful to find out brand awareness, brand loyalty and brand preferences.

4 Conjoint Analysis Use Test

In this technique different formulations of the new product or an existing product having some difference in formulations are tested using comparative design. The differences in the formulation are purposely made to judge the attitude of consumers.

For example, the respondent maybe offered various types of Pepsi soft drink (i.e. with sugar, without sugar etc).

5 Non Directive Method

In this method a group of selected respondents is give free samples of the product to be tested with reference to price, quality or any other aspect of the product. The respondents are not given any instruction about the purpose of test; hence it is called as Non Directive Method. After some time the respondents are interviewed individually on various aspects of the product.

If not for immigration, I would definitely not be here today. Immigration allowed both my father's family and mother's family to move to Vancouver, Canada. My parents met in high school and the rest is history. Immigration has provided countless families with the opportunity to escape persecution, political strife and poverty, and start anew in a foreign land. North America was founded and established by immigrants, people from the East and the West. Today, we have a melting pot society consisting of people from all parts of the world.

The essay, Five Myths about Immigration by David Cole, effectively contradicts the assumptions of immigration. Cole argues each point tactfully contributing his own opinions in each myth. He begins the essay by presenting some historical background on the making of this nation. He tells about the "Know-Nothings" and their political movement to oust "the greatest influx of immigrants from Ireland, where the potato famine had struck, and Germany, which was in political and economic turmoil." The majority of these immigrants, "many of whom were dirt-poor and uneducated", fled to New York and Massachusetts. Cole continues by saying "The objects of prejudice are of course no longer Irish Catholics and Germans; 140 years later, "they" have become "us." The new "they" because it seems "we" must always have a "they" are Latin Americans (most recently Cubans), Haitians, and Arab Americans among others." So as time passes on, people from different areas want to relocate and choose a better life. Fundamentally, Cole's purpose is to look at the "five current myths that distort public debate and government policy relating to immigrants."

My initial reactions to this essay were that of opposition and disagreement. I thought Cole would condescend to the immigrant population about the laws of citizenship and freedoms. However, the message in which he is communicating to the reader is one of clearly understanding the facts of immigration. He absolutely sets immigration in perspective for the reader. His style of writing is persuasive and diplomatic. For example, his response to the first myth, "America is being overrun with immigrants," is "In one sense, of course, this is true, but in that sense it has been true since Christopher Columbus arrived. Except for the real Native Americans, we are a nation of immigrants."

David Cole's statements which are based on his opinions are extremely plausible because for each myth he addresses, he supports it either with a statistic, a quote or even excerpts from files of the Supreme Court. In the second myth, "Immigrants take jobs from U.S. citizens," he says "there is virtually no evidence to support this view, probably the most widespread misunderstanding about immigrants. As documented by a 14 A.C.L.U. Immigrants' Rights Project report, numerous studies have found that immigrants actually create more jobs that they fill." In addition, he used a rhetorical question to manipulate the reader; "But more important, even if this claim were true, is this legitimate rationale for limiting immigration in a society built on the values of pluralism and tolerance?" As you can see, Cole writes honestly and rationally. Unlike the other essays we have read, his comments are neither cynical nor sarcastic.

Write my Essay on A Writer's Analysis for me

Cole's use of vocabulary and language enhances the persuasiveness of his arguments. His coherent comments are written in a thoughtful, comprehendible manner gaining the respect from the reader. In addition, he shows compassion in the essay "I am especially sensitive to this history My forebears were among those dirt-poor Irish Catholics who arrived in the 1860s. Fortunately for them, and me, the Know-Nothing movement fizzled within fifteen years." In his conclusion, he closes with a testimony; "Growing up, I was always taught that we will be judged by how we treat others."

Unquestionably, I believe that David Cole has succeeded in arguing his points across in his essay. His methods of attacking these five myths had significant influence on me because his examples were effective and credible. I concur with all his contradictions about the five myths of immigrations and this is due to his logical writing and pertinent examples.

I feel that the greatest challenge that I face as a teacher will be dealing with the individual diversities of my students and learning to see them individually. I plan to be a Special Education teacher and each child has particular problems. One may be an ADHD student, while another may have behavioral problems. Another may have a reading disability, but also come from a home of poverty and family problems. Each child has their own set of circumstances in life over which they have no control.

As a substitute teacher in many public schools I have experienced many situations and heard many "stories". I know of one student who was forced to watch her father commit suicide while she was tied to a bathroom toilet. Another came to school with her hair in disarray. When mom was addressed with this issue, she said that rats were living in the child's hair and the only way to get them out was to cut them out. Actual RATS!!! Mom's boyfriend was sexually abusing one child. I've had students with heads full of fleas as well as children who had severe lice. The parents were angry that their kids were not allowed back in school until it was dealt with and often say that they do not have time to deal with it. They act like it's OUR fault.

Family issues are a major source of problems for the children, as well. Single parent homes, where the mother/father is the sole caretaker, children who haven't seen their mothers/fathers in years, parents who have to work late every evening leaving no one to help a struggling child with homework, mom's problems with her violent boyfriend, child sexual abuse….you just never know what these children are going through at home. While not all of the students will have these types of problems, many do. How can a child be expected to come to school, have a good attitude and be excited about learning under these circumstances?

I think that the first way that I can prepare myself to deal with these problems is to get as much training and experience as possible before I start teaching. Classroom observation will be important in order to learn how experienced teachers deal with these situations. I realize that not every teacher will handle things appropriately, but most will and I can benefit from their experience. I have the utmost confidence that Southeastern will prepare me well.

Write my Essay on Teaching - What do I Feel will be My Biggest Challenge? for me

Also, I think that having a compassionate attitude is very important. Although I can not allow these problems to bring class progress to a halt, I need to be able to take time to talk with students who have problems, talk to the parents about ways to solve problems, and talk to my school administrators about how they would like for me to deal with these issues. I will rely heavily upon their input in such matters. I am determined to be a good teacher. I'm not looking to change the world, and yet…I would like to make a difference somewhere along the way. But, it's not about me…it's about them. RIGHT?

Please note that this sample paper on Teaching - What do I Feel will be My Biggest Challenge? is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. The Notebook is a very believable story with believable conflict throughout. The main conflict is Allie having to decide if the love and passion she had for Noah as a teen was still there and if it was stronger than the love she had for her fianc, Lon. "'But I also want a happy ending without hurting anyone. And I know that if I stayed, people would be hurt. Especially Lon. I wasn't lying when I told you that I love him. He doesn't make me feel the same way you do, but I care for him…'" (Pg 14) . She knew who she loved more; there was no doubt, but what would the people that she cared so much about think if she chose to be with Noah? "'...I wanted two things. First, I want you. I want us. I love you and I always have…'" (Pg 141) The conflict makes this story move along.

Dialogue is used in The Notebook to make the story more believable, also. The dialogue is very realistic. It sounds like a normal, flowing conversation with real emotion. "'Do you love Lon?' 'Yes, I do. I love him, too. Dearly, but in a different way. He doesn't make me feel the way Noah does.' 'No one will ever do that,' her mother said, and she released Allie's hand." The dialogue makes you feel as if you are a part of the story. It is heartfelt and clever.

The point of view in The Notebook is third-person omniscient. The author lets you know what the characters are thinking or feeling through dialogue and thought. Nicholas Sparks paints a picture with his dialogue almost as well as he does with his Imagery.

Imagery is a key element in this story because it keeps you entertained. It paints a picture for you to see in your mind. "Peaceful silence descended on them. An osprey cried somewhere in the distance. A mullet splashed near the bank. The paddle moved rhythmically, causing baffles that rocked the boat ever so lightly. The breeze had stopped, and the clouds grew blacker as the canoe moved toward some unknown destination." That description alone takes your mind to the destination with the characters. It's amazing how well Sparks does this.Cheap University Papers on The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks Analysis

Sparks also uses stereotypes to portray the character of Allie's fianc, Lon. He makes him sounds like the typical lawyer, putting in long hours at the office and leaving little time for his family. He draws a pretty clear picture why Allie may not be as happy with Lon as she could be. Stereotypes are easy to use on minor characters, so the author has more time to describe the more important characters.

Racism in Othello

"Carolina, why do you always get called out of class?" I asked, "Oh, it's just a program for Hispanic students that helps me to keep my grades up so I can get a scholarship for college." She replied. Immediately I was angry. I wasn't angry because Carolina had good grades, but I was angry because that program was only offered to Hispanics. If somebody were keeping track of me, making sure that I had good grades, I surely wouldn't be here, at Butte College, this very moment. I understand that because she is Hispanic, it is automatically assumed that her family is poverty-stricken. What about me? My family certainly didn't have a lot of money, especially to send me to college. I just didn't understand.

Now, my understandings are much clearer. I have come to believe that because of the extensive racism in the past, it should somehow be made up for now. Although racism still occurs, there is now way to make up for what has happened in the previous years. At least if there is, giving money to students of minority families for school isn't the best idea.

Racism has been around for as long as anyone can remember, and will remain until the end of time. It goes way back to the Shakespearian days. In one of Shakespeare's well-known plays, Othello, racism is a strong subject occurring throughout the entire play.

Desdemona, the daughter of a sophisticated civilized Venetian senator Brabantio, marries Othello, a black soldier and nobleman of stature. Since at the time, blacks were not known except as slaves, this generates quite the controversy. A jealous, false, deceiving soldier, Iago, does everything he can to split Desdemona and Othello apart. He is the catalyst of all the destructive happenings within the play. Starting from the very beginning when he and Roderigo, a gulled gentleman, (Othello) approach the residence of Brabantio in 1.1. He uses crude, racist language to appeal to Brabantio's traditional beliefs, including such phrases as,

IAGO Even now, now, very now, an old black ram

Is tupping your white ewe!

Othello 1.1, P.6, lines 85-86

Iago even goes so far as to propose that Brobantio's grandchildren will be animals because of his daughter's base marriage with an 'other.'

IAGO…you'll have

your daughter covered with a Barbary horse,

you'll have you nephews neigh to you, you'll have

coursers for cousins, and jennets for germans.

Othello 1.1, P.7, lines 108-111

Since racial discrimination and persecution (Webster's) have been around for such a long time, it is thought that by now, it would have "died out." However, the subject is still as strong as it was when slavery was a broad topic. Racism is everywhere; in the workplace, at school, on the streets, in music, in literature, and on T.V.

What is the current rule of the press in the 1st century?

News stations in the 1st century are here to inform us about issues around the world. With the newest technology people can now receive the latest issue from their favorite news-station. Either if you are a left-wing or a right-wing you will find a suitable news-channel.

In general speaking, it is impossible to switch over to a news-station sending neutral reports concerning world wide issues. Each news-station has its own opinion, politics and maybe even an hidden agenda. They are here to stay and to affect and direct your opinion to what they think is for your own good.

What they broadcast on the news-channel is very dependant on from which country it origins from. Like in a western country there are more than just two channels, which e.g. represents the left-wing's and the right-wing's opinion. Things they broadcast are not censured by the government, but a warning is usually issued before it goes onto the screen. Democracy has a big influence on the western culture whilst in the middle-east they are not permitted to have the freedom of speech, freedom of broadcasting whatever they like to in a certain extend etc. As a matter of fact, their broadcasts are more biased than any other western news-channel.

Cheap Custom Essays on Media

Who chooses the issues of the day

A news-station need to broadcast things they think will make people interested. Everyday there is something which makes its way to be news, e.g. the murder of a famous politician, Anna Lindh. They need to prior the most important issues in their limited broadcasting time.

The news-stations are dependant on the customers, but in the end it is the news-station, which decides what to broadcast as well as they need to satisfy their customer. What people usually want to hear is gossip, but news-station need to make it into serious 'gossip'.

Looking back at /11 - that was the top-issue for 14 days in a row hitting the frontpage on every single newspaper in every single country except some Middle-eastern of course. The disaster was broadcasted immediately when the first plane hit the southern tower. It was broadcasted worldwide and the site counts were extreme on CNN.com and the viewers were major on all large international news-station.

What factors affect this decision?

In countries where democracy is high prioritized, the press is usually owned by rich individuals, and therefore they include and try to promote their own personal opinions. In countries like Singapore the press is owned by the government, which allows them to censure anything they do not want people to hear about i.e. that they are in lack of labors. The lack of freedom in some countries affect the news being broadcasted either in newspapers or on the television.

Imagination has always played an important role in shaping one's characteristics. We see imagination playing similar role in Macbeth's life before and after he murders King Duncan. Before murdering Duncan, Macbeth imagines a dagger leading him to the king's chamber. After murdering King Duncan, Macbeth hears some voices saying "Glamis hath murder'd sleep and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more." It seems that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth guilty of what they have done and it is their conscious that is driving them crazy. Macbeth also sees some ghostly images of Banquo later in the play when he assassinates him.

Just before Macbeth is about to kill Duncan, he sees a dagger before him. It is his conscious and it seems as if he is too tensed by the idea of killing the King. He imagines all the blood dripping from the dagger. He also sees the dagger directing him to King Duncan's chamber. While he is imagining the dagger, he also imagines the nature which seems dead and how the nightmares must be torturing King Duncan as he is asleep, "Now o'er the one half world, nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse the curtain'd sleep". Although Macbeth visualizes the entire horrifying thoughts (relating to killing Duncan) gush through his mind, he gets the deed done.

After Macbeth kills Duncan he hears some voices saying "Macbeth has murder'd sleep, therefore Macbeth will sleep no more". This again is his conscious as he and Lady Macbeth feel guilty about what they have done. Macbeth imagines that he has murdered the sleeping king Duncan and therefore stealing his own sleep. Although no ones knows about this deed, Macbeth feels extremely guilty and is not able to concentrate on what is going to happen next. He seems to have been lost in his own imagination. "I'll go no more I'm afraid to think what I have done; Look on't again I dare not. "

The last key imagination that Macbeth envisions is the ghostly images of Banquo at the dinner table. Macbeth has invited some guest to dinner at his castle. As everyone is beginning to start their meal, one of the murderers of Banquo comes and breaks this news to Macbeth. Macbeth is pleased to hear the news. As he comes back to the table, he sees a ghostly image of Banquo sitting at his chair. This again is Macbeth's imagination. The ghost seems to frighten Macbeth and Macbeth starts talking absolute nonsense in front of everybody, "Thou canst say I did it never shake Thy gory locks at me." In this part Macbeth is talking to the ghost claiming that he hasn't done the killing. Another example, "Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; thou hast no speculation in those eyes which thou dost glare with.", this is another part from the same scene when the ghost disappears and then reappears again. In this scene Macbeth is totally occupied with his imagination of Banqou. All this drama led to the dismissal of the guests in a very inappropriate and dishonorable way.Write my Essay on Macbeth's Imaginations

Imagination appears to have played a significant role in Macbeth's character throughout the play. It is interesting how Macbeth imagines one thing and does something else, for example, before killing King Duncan, Macbeth argues various reasons to not kill him. Eventually, he kills him. Macbeth also differentiates between his two sides and after committing something evil, his other side haunts him back.

The year 186 was the time that the Untied States of America came down as a whole. Many people were hurt and confused by the Jim Crow laws. These laws were established in order or keep the blacks and whites separated in public places. Jim Crow laws made a huge impact on society in the 10's.

On May 18, 186, the U.S. Supreme Court considered the idea of "separate but equal," which was the base of the Jim Crow laws. This was the case of the Plessy versus Ferguson.

The United States Constitution did not allow many types of discrimination such as black people being mistreated. Therefore, the states worked around the rules to include Jim Crow laws without disobeying the United States Constitution. This made African Americans considered as the "lower class" citizens. Many people were judging the blacks because of their skin; they were not respected as human beings. They were also not entitled to vote in some states, take literary tests, or poll taxes. All over the South, "white" and "colored" signs went up. Trains, buses barber shops, schools, and other public places were segregated by law.

All black people were separated from the whites when using public transportation. To sit on a public bus was an immense ordeal because the

black people had to sit in the back seats while the whites in the front. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks are few of the many people who wanted to stop the racist segregation.

Jim Crow laws existed between the end of the formal Reconstruction period in 1877 and the beginning of a strong civil rights movement in the 150's. Jim Crow Laws have not just effected the African Americans; it effected the white people too. Some people liked the racism, however, some did not. "Jump Jim Crow" was the name of a minstrel routine performed by Thomas Dartmouth Rice beginning in 188 and widely imitated by other minstrel performers. Qualifications were often given up for whites through a Grandfather Clause. This allowed only men to be exempted from qualifications if their grandfathers were legally allowed to vote. Many whites were exempted, however no blacks were.

Many schools in the United States were also separating the whites and the blacks. The schools consisted of all black and all white schools. If a child went to school in the other races' area, that was illegal. A major setback occurred for Jim Crow laws in 154, when the Supreme Court ruled in Brown versus Board of Education and declared that segregated schools were unconstitutional.

It truly is a blessing that Jim Crow laws are not in the United States today. People should be accepted no matter what color, race, or religion they come from. Many people are still hurt and confused as to why it even started in the first place, I know I am.

Please note that this sample paper on Jim Crow Laws is for your review only. In -pac's song "Dear Mama" he thanks his mother for all the good that she has done for him throughout his struggling life. He begins the song talking about his childhood days when he was seventeen and kicked out of the house. Even though his mother had kicked him out of the house for having their differences, he looks passed all of the mistakes and try's to reconcile for the tough times he had put her through. "Dear Mama" is a poem that was written from a son to a mother, thanking her for all the things that she had done for him in the past. -Pac brings his childhood experiences directly into the song, giving examples of the bad times that he had endured as a youngster. Even though she was a drug addict and never was around for him, -pac still appreciates everything his mother tried to do to make his life better. He understands that his mother was just playing the cards she was dealt.

The theme of this song is very depressing considering all the bad that he talks about. -Pac writes about how dark his days were being in and out of jail and always struggling to make a dollar. Even though he encountered a lot of obstacles as a child, he always new how to deal with them. He understood that his mother wasn't perfect and never really had a straight head on her shoulders, but he did all he could to help her when she was down. Whatever it was he did, from selling drugs on the streets to running from the cops, he always gave his mother the recognition she deserved. This song is a thank you letter to his mother for bringing him to this world. -Pac respects his mother very much for all that she had done for him as a child. In his first verse he thanks her for all the little things that she put up with, and even though she wasn't always there, he forgives her and understands she did what she could.

In the second verse -Pac talks about how he never had a father. He never had someone that he could look up to and follow in his footsteps. This was hard for him as a child being raised in the streets. There was nobody in his life to tell him right from wrong, so he resorted to drugs and crime. This was the easiest way to make money for him and his family, so he had to take on responsibilities as a father. He always appreciated bringing money home and paying for the rent. -Pac portrays himself as a lonely misunderstood kid that did what he had to do to survive. He realizes that for a single mother it was not easy raising two children on welfare. So the only possible option was selling dope; something most people do to make easy money. He lets us know that his mother was a "crack fiend", but in his eyes she will always be a "black queen". He was a very understanding person and I respect him for his strive to make life better for himself and his mother. I believe there's nothing more rewarding than love from a mother.

Perpetual ChildhoodOrder custom research paper on Willy Loman

In the dramatic play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the daily life of the Loman family is shown through the eyes and mind of the father. Now a sixty years old discouraged salesperson with nothing to show for a lifetime of hard work, Willy Loman is lead to reminisce on happier times with the presence of his two grown sons, Happy and Biff, back in the house. Reassuring himself that his children would be successful because of their well-built physical appearance, Willy prided himself on Biff's athletic feats especially, ever since Biff was young. Although it would seem Willy was the only one disillusioned by this false hope of success, Biff's athletic status appears to dominate an aspect in his life past his adolescence that seems to trap him in a perpetual childhood.

Biff is introduced into the play nostalgic of his youth, for he is fumbling with an old deflated football as he describes the employment defeats he has had since he left home. Handling a football, a sign of immaturity, seems to show why the only job he has been content with so far has been herding cattle out West, making him thirty-four with little income and no promised future successes. Discussing his lack of a plan with Happy, Biff explains, "I've had twenty or thirty different kinds of jobs since I left home before the war, and it always turns out the same…I'm mixed up very bad. Maybe I oughta get married. Maybe I oughta get stuck into something. Maybe that's my trouble. I'm like a boy" (pages -). Graduating high school with plans to be a professional athlete, Biff is disillusioned when this, nor any of the other various careers, does not pick up and come to him naturally. Admitting it himself, Biff is in fact 'like a boy', for he demonstrates little sense of maturity or responsibility appropriate for an adult.

As he discusses with Happy the reasons behind his failures, Biff realizes he must initiate his own work to demonstrate the maturity of adulthood so as to live up to the great aspirations that Willy held for him. Although he is determined and aware that he is a disappointment to his father, Biff can not come to terms and accept that he needs to take orders from men even over whom he is athletically superior. Discussing a future out West together, Biff explains to Happy, "Maybe we could buy a ranch. Raise cattle, use our muscles. Men built like we are should be working out in the open" (page ). Biff approaches the workplace with a schoolyard mentality believing that his strength alone should gain him success. Although he realizes his embarrassing reputation, his childish mentalities drag him away from creating a steady occupation and home life for himself.

Going from job to job without a set plan, yet physically attractive at the same time, the life of Biff symbolizes the inherent impossibility of Willy's strategy for success. Growing up with his father's morals, Biff is taught that being well liked and athletic are the keys to success. After starring in high school as a football player, Biff continues to live the life of a child athlete with unrealistic goals for life. By doing so and not working his own way up the ladder of success, Biff finds little room for himself in the business world similar to his father, whose life Biff copied, until he realized for himself, the components of living a successful life as an adult.

In 1 my dad decided to run for a political position in our community. He entered this race after the deadline for his name to be posted on the ballot so he had to run as a write-in candidate. He went door-to-door campaigning for this office and did his best to inform people about his entrance into this election. On the night of the elections, we got together at a friend's house and listened for the results on the radio. My dad ended up winning the race for this position by a fairly large amount. For the last four years, my dad has done his best to serve his community to the best of his ability and is planning on running again.

My dad's office does not bear the greatest responsibility in the world but is vital to our city's future. Since this office is a part time position, my dad also works as an engineer for a car company. This job also offers opportunities to benefit America's future. For example, the products my dad engineers make parts that are put into cars that transport people for years to come.

So at about now you may be thinking that I may follow in my old man's footsteps…nope. I admit, I may have some interest in politics but I would never be able to sit through all those meetings…Yuck. Political positions may be the most obvious way to contribute to the future of America but they certainly are not the only way. All careers, whether it be working as a cashier at McDonalds, or being the C.E.O. of a major corporation offer some way to make America even better than it already is.

Take a teacher for instance. Everyone, at one point or another, has heard the phrase "Kids are the keys to America's future" or something to that extent. Teachers are the educators of those "Future Leaders of America." A teacher is one of those professions, which, the effects of which are not fully appreciated until after the child has graduated. I am constantly hearing about famous people who talk about how their experience in such and such a school or with Mr. So-and-so has had such a great impact on their life. Teachers help establish the future of their students.

Most people think that you have to be smart or rich or good looking to be a contribution to your community. Lets go back to the story about my dad for a minute; he isn't exceedingly smart, rich or good-looking so what makes him different from anyone else. He does the best he can do. It does not matter whether you are a fireman, policeman, lawyer, artist, sales clerk, or whatever it is you have decided to spend your life doing. All that matters is that you do your best

High School versus college

There are many differences between college and high school. I experienced many of these differences my self. For example in high school, you need permission to go somewhere as far as college you decide where you want to go and when you want to go. Also, High School is mandatory and free, College is voluntary and expensive. I remember when my class was taking a trip to Disney world. I left school with my permission slip in hand and I was on my way home to get it signed. To my surprise, my mother was no where to be found. Then I said to myself, maybe she will be back in a couple of hours. The next morning I woke up and it was time for school, but to find out that my mother was not home yet. She was working a double shift at the hospital, so I missed an opportunity to go to Disney world. Now that I am in college, I don't have that problem, reason being that in college, everybody is considered an adult and you make your own decisions. Instead of your parents deciding whether you can participate in something, you must decide whether to participate in co-curricular activities.

In high school, you are mandatory to go to school and it's very much free. But since it's free, you have to make it to class on time, worry about attendance, check in with your home room teacher. You need to be there everyday. As far as college, you don't have to check in, you show up when you want to and there is no homeroom teacher to check in with. But if you don't go, it's like you throwing away a lot of money. Although the restrictions that you had in high school are not there in college, in college you are paying for your education. So you are still obligated to be there. Unless you just have all this money to waste.

Taking class trips always seemed to put me on a mission to find my parents to sign a permission slip. If they did not sign the slip, you could not go on the field trip. Although my parents let me go any way, I still hated the fact that I had to have them sign it all the time. My first year in college, when we went on trips, I never had to get anything singed. We simply just got on the bus and left. In college, it's up to you as to where you wanna go, and when.Buy custom High shool vs. college term paper

Personally I prefer college over high school more. Because, you get more freedom to do what you wanna do. You can go to school whenever you want to. If you go to school away from your home, there are no parents and you can leave class whenever you want. In high school, the only thing it did for me, was provide me with some memories and I would never want to go back to those days. Simply because I prefer college over high school.

Alberto Giacometti was born October 10, 101, in Borgonovo, Switzerland, and grew up in the nearby town of Stampa. The son of a successful post-Impressionist painter, Giacometti studied painting and sculpture in Geneva, before moving to Paris in 1 (Gohlke 00).

The works of Paul Czanne and Alexander Archipenko impressed Giacometti. He was also deeply affected by the masterpieces of Giotto and Tintoretto. But Giacometti's early works, however, reflected the influence of African, Oceanic art and Cubism (Bonnefoy 11).

During the 10s, Giacometti came into contact with the Paris avant-garde and became a distinguished figure in the Surrealist group. His first solo exhibition in 1 at Galerie Pierre Colle, confirmed this position as Surrealism's most important sculptor. During this time, many of his works have a nightmarish quality, with evocation of sexual violence and physical confinement (Bonnefoy 11). Examples famous during this time are Woman Having Her Throat Cut and Hands Holding The Void. In 15, Giacometti grew dissatisfied with the purely imaginary aspect of Surrealism, and began working from nature, using people he knew as models. During the early 140s, Giacometti developed a close friendship with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, and became involved with the Existentialist movement. It is during this period that he developed his characteristic style, producing the tall, emaciated figures for which he is best known. Giacometti's haunting sculptures have been described as a perfect metaphor of existential man solitary stripped figures inhabiting a vast and meaningless silent void (Bonnefoy 11). His solitary figures are imprisoned on large bases, and physical decay is represented through the sculptures' gouged surfaces. Man Pointing and City Square are his famous examples portraying these features in bronze.

Around 150, the artist turned with renewed interest to painting and printmaking. His portraits are nearly always frontal views of single immobile figures. Tireless in his efforts to define the human figure, he drew and sculpted the subjects close to him again and again. His brother Diego and his wife Annette, his most constant models, are represented in many of his works during this period (Bonnefoy 11).

In 155, Giacometti was honored with major retrospectives at the Arts Council Gallery in London And the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He received the Sculpture Prize at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh in 161 and the first prize for sculpture at the Venice Biennale of 16. In 165, Giacometti was also awarded the Grand National Prize for Art by the French government (Gohlke 00).

Giacometti died on January 11, 166, in Chur, Switzerland, with the reputation of being the most important sculptor of the middle decades of the twentieth century.

"Family Portrait" by Pink and "I'm okay" by Christina Aguilera express being hurt by family. The idea is to understand why these two songs are so much alike yet they are different. The lyrics are very emotional because the artists describe the hurt inflicted on them by family. The songs are belted out in such a powerful manner that the audience can only imagine what really went on. While Christina depends on her mother to survive, Pink believes her father can make things well again. Each artist uses their lyrics to explain the hurt they feel even though they are two different, but slightly similar kinds of pain.

In the song "Family Portrait" Pink sings about herself as a child torn apart by the possibility of her parents divorce. The child is hurt by this and does not want her parents to split up. " Can we work it out? Can we be a family? Daddy please don't leave." She wants her parents to work through the problems. It is understandable that the child wants her family to stay together. Certain lyrics in the song lead the listener to consider that the speaker thinks she and her mother are the reason her parents fight. "Mom will be nicer, I'll be so much better I'll do everything right." All children dream of having the perfect family and every young girl dreams of having her father around Pink believes that if her father stays everything will be okay.

It is easy to assume that the pain of divorce is difficult, but abuse is a different kind of pain. In Christina Aguilera's song "I'm Okay" the speaker sings about a pain of another kind abuse. "The song is about the abuse her father inflicted on her as a child and her mother. The lyrics are full of sorrow as she explains horrific things she witnessed as a child. . " Hurt me to see the pain across my mothers face, every time my father's fist would put her in her place." Unlike Pink's song, she sees her father as the reason for the pain. She wants him to know that her mother was her backbone, the person that pulled her through the pain. "Strength is my mother for all the love she gave I'm okay."

In the first verse of each song both artists sing in detail of not wanting to go home. In their eyes they see home as a battlefield where they are innocent spectators, watching their parents fight. They are also the ones who suffer in the long run. In Pink's song the speaker talks about the love she'll never have. "Never knowin what love could be." In Christina's song the speaker talks about the difficulty to allow someone to be close to her. It is apparent that ever since these incidents, these artists are hesitant about who they open their hearts to. They are afraid to let anyone near.

The Red Scare was the time between WWI and WWII where the media fueled a fire against communism leading up to Americans' fear and The Palmer Raids. In every story, our government is the hero and communism is the sought out monster. The newspapers, portrayed communism out as the monster. They created a story that would sell and threaten Americans that life as they know it could end. Papers conveyed that communism was abusive to people, ignored human rights, and broke down family and Christian morals.

The climate of repression established during WWI continued after the war ended. This time, government interest focused on communists, Bolsheviks and reds generally. The climactic phase of this anti communist crusade occurred during the Palmer Raids of 118-11. A. Mitchell Palmer, Wilsons Attorney General, believed communism was eating its way into the homes of the American workman. In 11 Palmer intensified the attacks on political dissent that had begun during the war. The year 11 saw a great deal of social conflict. A wave of strikes, the passage of both Prohibition and Woman Suffrage, and the Chicago race riot took place. Although there were only about 70, 000 self professed Communists in the United States in 11, Palmer viewed them as responsible for a wide range of social ills, including bombings that took place in eight different cities by suspected anarchists. In December of 11, in their most famous act, Palmers agents seized 4 resident aliens. Those seized were placed on board a ship, the Buford, bound for the Soviet Union. Deportees included Emma Goldman the feminist, anarchist and writer. The Palmer Raids were a complete violation of U.S. citizens' rights that the media needed to be present in making communism an enemy, or there would have been more disputes over Palmer's actions. The U.S. government broke amendments IV, VI, VIII, IX, XIV, and I to carry out the raids. Palmer was eventually found guilty of wrongfully using government funds and all his credibility was lost and his hopes of someday running for the presidency vanished.

Probably the most famous case of false accusations that transpired during the Red Scare, was that of Sacco and Vanzetti. On April 15, 10, two men robbed and murdered a paymaster and his guard as they transferred $15,776 from the Slater and Morrill Shoe factory. Three weeks later, Italian immigrants and known anarchists, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, were accused and arrested for the crime, despite the little evidence against them. Following, a seven-week trial, Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted, on circumstantial evidence, of murder and sentenced to death. Seven years later, after numerous appeals, and immense public outcry, both men were executed for their "crimes." "If it had not been for this thing I might have lived out my life among scorning men. I might have died unmarked, unknown, a failure. This is our career and our triumph. Never in our full life could we hope to do such work for tolerance, for justice, for man's understanding of man, as now we do by accident. Our words our lives our pains nothing! The taking of our lives the lives of a good shoemaker and a poor fish peddler all." Nicola Sacco.

The Ku Klux Klan was most powerful during the 10s when memberships rose to nearly three million members. The Klan aimed to alienate non-whites and other religious groups from the rest of American society. The Klan was a hate group and displayed their hatred by killing thousands of people and destroyed the lives of many others. The KKK was based in the South, but expanded their hate across America. The Klan started small, but gained millions of members in just a few short years. The Klan preached its beliefs to all Americans and urged everyone to join for the good of their country. Thousands of innocent people were slain because of their backgrounds. The Klan's views were based on white supremacy and unfortunately carried into the minds of millions. Although the Klan lasted only a short while, they made a mark in history and were one of the largest organized groups in America at the time.Order Custom The Red Scare. paper

The Red Scare reflected the same anxiety about free speech and obsession with agreement that had characterized the war years. Our Constitution is a sacred document to the United States' existence. When we no longer look to it as the guiding base of our country, we have failed. During this period of time, the United States was no better than the tyrannical governments we fought less than two hundred years earlier.
