The movie, Rosewood, takes place in Florida consisting of an African American community, where many own property and businesses. Mr. Wright, the only white man to own a business in Rosewood, plans to expand his business and purchasing more land. Although he has an affair with one of his African American employees, he still feels some racism. On New Year's Eve, a mysterious man comes to town, named Mr. Mann. He stays with Sylvester Carrier and his family, deciding whether or not he wants to stay permanently.

Soon, a great amount of anxiety between Rosewood, and the neighboring white town Sumner arises with many racial disputes to come. A young woman named Fannie, from the white town Sumner, falsely claims that she has been attacked by an African-American stranger. In doing so, she was really covering for her adulterous affair with an abusive white man. The town sought out to find the attacker, who was suspected to be an African-American convict by the name Jesse Hunter. Sara Carrier, Sylvester's mother, witnesses that Fannie was indeed not attacked by an African American. The mob starts to get out of hand, leading to the death of many Rosewood residents. Some African-American women and children escaped into the woods. Mr. Mann, after escaping from being lynched, takes the Sylvester's family to a train, with the help of Mr. Wright, fleeing from the sheriff and his mob. Out of all the roles in the movie, Mr. Wright changed from the beginning of the film to the very end. He was shown that he disagreed with the sheriff's dealings in finding the so-called attacker. Despite the fact that many African Americans were killed during the Rosewood massacre, he still aided a family and was able to run away.
