In general, movies are classified into categories like romance, action, drama and one of the most popular attractive categories is science fiction. Science fiction movies are that kind of movies that mainly rely on imagination and visualization of the future and how would the world be at that time. Science fiction is usually targeted for all age's e.g. scary movies are mainly targeted for adults and star wars, lord of the rings ect is for young ages to teenagers. Science fictional films are really interesting because they use computerized images and features to improvise and make things that are unimaginable. When I researched the alien trilogy I found out that they pushed technology to another level meaning they used things that are a bit too unrealistic e.g. alien coming out of a woman's womb. In the beginning we see the inside of RIPLEYS body with a whole variety of different colours in order to give us a chilling first impressions of the film. The whole theme of the film is based on outer space, humans vs. aliens, the characters in the scene we watched looked very un-normal to what we see in normal life, scientists who looked very desperate with the invention they had created as for Ripley she was only needed for the operation and to produce the baby dinosaur which would later be a weapon of mass destruction. The security guards in the film look really like they didn't have a clue with what was going on, they felt like they was there only for a purpose which they had no access to. The scene is directed in a very spooky way to show the audience this is something special something that's never been seen before they use fades after the creature is born to try and amaze the audience, they use a whole variety of different computerized images e.g. outer space, aliens, ect. The whole reason to use these different shots, freeze frames, and slow motion, is to try to make things that have not been made in history before, improvise to make something that can really make a big hit in the box office and make millions for the film producers. The camera work is done in a neat manner using distance shots, the camera facing particular angles, focusing on one object for a long period of time. They are all used in particular ways because they don't really want the film to be straight forward again they only want to make an impact on the audience. Light effect makes the film different in a lot of ways because if they used bright colours in scary movies in what way would that scare the audience that is why it is so important to have the lighting in films as accurate to the theme as possible when they say Alien Trilogy they mean dark colours, mean monsters, brave humans ect. The sounds they use in the film are very creepy, scary, spooky something chilling, something to scare the audience with something to make them want to watch more and more of the film. Ripley looks like a normal woman in the film being opened up to what seemed to be her having a normal baby but really turned out to be an alien baby. The baby alien looked very ferocious when it was taken out of Ripley's stomach. It had what looked like silver teeth. In conclusion I think the film is a really mind thrilling film which was made by professionals that knew what they were doing not some lame producer at trying to make his millions and producing his first film.

Amistad

If you order your research paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Amistad. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Amistad, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Amistad paper at affordable prices!

In the 17 movie Amistad, Steven Spielberg illustrates the events that took place in 18 on the Spanish ship, The Amistad (La Amistad). The movie travels through the events with vivid and powerful emotion. The slaves, even though they could not speak English, undoubtedly demonstrated their intense longing for freedom in Spielberg's version of the historical event.

The setting of Amistad proved to be frequently accurate. The backdrop of the movie was unfailing to the period in which it occurred . There are a few mistakes, though, that went unseen in the making of the film. The American flag that swayed proudly throughout the film carried too many stars. It is the present day American flag that the viewer notices waving through the air, while the flag should have contained less stars. Not all of the states that construct the U.S. had been added to the flag in the early 1800s. Another inconsistency with the environment around the movie took place during the scene with John Quincy Adams standing outside the Capitol building talking with Theodore Jeadson. There is a dome on the Capitol, which was not truly constructed onto the building until 186. This is a apparent blemish, since the movie was set in 18 - 1840s.

Spielberg revealed the characters in the movie with massive accuracy. The feeling that the actors exulted beautifully exemplified how the slaves, attorneys, townspeople, and even the President was reacted at that moment in time. The lone character that was conflicting with the actual person was the slaves' attorney, Roger Baldwin. In reality, Roger Baldwin was not youthful and inexperienced. He was actually about fifty years old, and a exceedingly esteemed lawyer. A few years after the Amistad case, he was elected governor of Connecticut. Other than that one instance of character change, the movie did well in the character aspect to reenact the strong feelings and thoughts that commenced during the Amistad incident.

The plot of the movie was astonishingly not overstuffed with false facts of what transpired. For the most part, Spielberg stuck with the correct events that took place, making evident the magnitude of the whole situation for the slaves and the people of America. Most likely due to making the movie "more exciting" or just to make it flow easier for the audience, there were some parts altered or added. The significant character, the enslaved Cinque, was not really detained in Africa and then instantaneously exported to Cuba out of the slave depot at Lomboko. This is what the movie demonstrates, but it is fictitious. Cinque was imprisoned a few years beforehand by black Africans, which was a common practice. Then he was sold to slave traders.

Write your Amistad research paper

When the movie begins, the opening scene consists of a sweat-covered Cinque ripping at a nail to pick the shackles that bind his wrists, while he sits on the lower deck of the Amistad with his fingers raw and drenched in blood. This is a exceptionally compelling scene that perhaps grabs hold of the hearts of many. The problem is that Cinque actually got free by stooping and picking up a piece of metal that he saw when he was topside one day. He used the metal that he recovered to pick the lock, not a nail.

Numerous plot alterations were focused around Cinque. In the movie, Cinque was in attendance for the Supreme Court's spoken argument. Unfortunately, what actually happened was Cinque was imprisoned every day of his life in America. Also, John Quincy Adams states in his closing argument to the Supreme Court that Cinque went to his home, and they had a conversation about African Violets. Truthfully, they never had this conversation, and Cinque had on no account been to John Quincy Adams house. In fact, African Violets were native to East Africa, not Sierra Leone in the west. (Cinque was from Sierra Leone.)

There were additional tribulations with the plot. The film shows the slave depot at Lomboko ruined by the Royal Navy after the Amistad trial. In actual reality, it was destroyed in 18, shortly after Cinque was exported from there. That was extensively before the Amistad trial, which began in 1840.

The movie also refers to slaves being thrown overboard from ships. This was not an occurrence, at least, not in the trip in question. Most ships that contained slave traders that were good at what they did, had enough food on the ship to feed their "cargo" between Sierra Leone and Cuba. The only time a slave was thrown overboard in mid-ocean was when his or her health created a grave threat to the crew and "cargo".

The final part that was not consistent with the true story was the ending in which it tells what happened to Cinque when he went back to Africa. It recounts that his family was all gone, and his whole village had been destroyed. It falls short in including that he became a slave trader.

All in all, Spielberg stayed true to the original events and emotions that went with the Amistad trial and after-effects. Most of the additional sequences that proved to be false were due to entertainment purposes. Spielberg put forth tremendous exertion in repeating events that are tragically poignant to countless people, and he pulled it off brilliantly.

Harrison Bergeron

At last, in the year 081, there is a world of perfect equality. With 'average' levels of intelligence, physical strength and appearance balanced out, America has finally become a utopian society. Yet there are flaws, and still inequality within the mask of equality that belittles all those with above-average skills. Brief yet effective, Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron" is a bitter satire of a futuristic America, seen through the eyes and voices of its citizens.

Write your harrison bergeron research paper

Vonnegut shows us through characters the different opinions each civilian feel towards this equality law. There is Hazel, who is of 'average' intelligence and too stupid to acknowledge even the death of her own son. Her thoughts come and go, drifting here and there. Hazel and all the other Hazel's in America are the ones who make the leaders of America feel so safe; for she is harmless and easily manipulated to fit their needs.

But then there is George; who is of above-average intelligence and physical fitness. He must not only endure the irritation of the ear transmitter every time he thinks too much, but also carry the burden of heavy weights around his neck to make up for his physical state. The transmitters are made to blast loud noise and disturb his train of thought, till his mind is as blank as his wife's, while the weights hinder him and force him to bend over at the force. Though the man understands what happens when his son dies right before him on the TV screen, he is unable to express his emotions.

And at last, our hero Harrison, a boy born with such intelligence, physical capabilities and handsome appearances that he was strapped into the most up-to-date technology barring the boy from his above-average skills. But he could not be hindered, and even when he was sent to jail, Harrison found a way to break free.

He and his ballerina were the most brilliant people anyone had ever seen, and because they exploited such skills, were made to pay the ultimate price. Before these new laws were enforced, citizens of America would've died to have a certain look or figure. But now, in the year 081, talent, appearances and practically everything that makes us unique are forbidden. The opinions of these enforced handicaps are mixed, as these three examples show, from desire to indifference, and from indifference to vulgar hate. And yet, it is from these three main characters that we get a sense of what life in 081 might be like, and the real power behind Vonnegut's story.

Harrison Bergeron satirizes equality in this story through the use of characters. It shows us the differences and the minds of average civilians versus those of above-average ones. George is strapped with bothersome implements while Harrison is forced to disfigure himself to deem 'average' in appearance. It is satirical in this way, because futuristic America goes overboard with the desire for equality. The message is clear though, and it reminds us that we shouldn't try too hard to be equal in every way. Uniqueness, individuality and personality are what makes us so special, and this world so interesting.

Please note that this sample paper on harrison bergeron is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Dear Sabine,

I would like you to meet Bonnie, my new ESL classmate. Even though we have just known each other through our short conversation in class today, I can tell that she is a very interesting and energetic person.

Bonnie is originally from Hong Kong and has been studying at Foothill College for six months. She majors in Journalism, which I can tell she is enthusiastic about. Unlike most other business students from Hong Kong, who are always calm and quiet, Bonnie is pretty talkative and friendly. Her enthusiasm in our conversation made me feel like I wanted to draw more into talking with her. That's why we did not run out of things to talk, which often happens for most of people in their first meeting.

Bonnie loves to go shopping or surf the Internet when she has free time. She also told me that she loves going to clubs. But since she's now living in a country that has strict age limit rules, she cannot enjoy her time partying like she used to do when she lived in Hong Kong. As she was telling me, there's no age limit in Hong Kong so every kid can hang out with his or her friends at clubs. More than that, she told me all the recreational places in Hong Kong are open until 00 in the morning, which is quite different from the US. Most places here close at 00 in the evening.

Custom writing service can write essays on first ESL essay

" I'm kinda disappointed about the US. People here go to bed so early and it's so boring."

I guess it's a pretty common feeling among international students, because I do feel the same way. Entertainment in the US often concentrates at some certain places that are far away from residential areas. They don't spread out all over the city like in Hong Kong and other Asian cities.

Regardless, Bonnie still likes it here because she feels she has more freedom. Bonnie said that her host family does not care what time she gets home or how late she goes out at night. Normally, if she lived with her parents then she would not be allowed to go out late. But ever since she arrived here, no one has been in charge of her anymore, except herself. She is the one that has to be responsible for herself. She and I both agree that is a good experience for teenagers. It not only helps us to develop our own sense of responsibility but also gives us more freedom to make the choices that can teach us about responsibility, such as mistakes that we learn from.

Getting to know Bonnie was a very pleasant experience for me. It gave me the chance to make a new friend and know more about different cultures in the world. After talking to her and other students, I realized that even though international students have various feelings about living in the US, the culture shock from being transplanted into a different lifestyle is still a common factor among us. Getting over it or adapting to it is each student's choice.

The important idea is that you have to create something new to keep your study-abroad experience fresh and entertaining.

This is what I got from the conversation with Bonnie today. I hope I have further opportunities to get to know people in the class so I can share those experiences with you.

Best regards,

Khoa Nguyen

Nightly Event at a Club

What should you do at 1 A.M when you're just hanging around the same old tedious place, in your simple living room, with your group of close friends. You're all bored and there is nothing good on television and most places that you frequently hang out at are closed? Consider going out to a club for some fun entertainment.

The line was very lengthy outside, for it was a Saturday night. It stretched from the rear of the club to the access of a sky train station. The weather was unpleasantly cold. Whenever my friends turned towards me to talk, I could see frost that was coming out of their mouth as they spoke. It took half an hour for us to get to the front of the line. Although it was only half an hour, it seemed more like a year because of how eager we were to get inside the club. I guess we teenagers need to be taught about how to be patient.

So my friends and I, after having our ID's checked continually, walked into the crowded club. Just because we look younger than 1 they take so long to look over our ID's. The liquor left a concentrated stench behind. The generously proportioned room was very dark and foggy. The atmosphere you could say was… gloomy, but yet not depressing. The music was playing loudly. I could not hear anything my friends said to me. I couldn't adjust quickly to my surroundings as well as my experienced friends could. I haven't been here as often as they had.

So I the place smelled horrible… it reeked!!! In fact it wasn't a very pleasant aroma. I took my mind off the ugly smell in the club and walked over to the bar to get a drink, away from the dance floor where my girlfriends were. They appeared to be having a lot of fun. I ordered a vodka, this appealing guy sitting next to me also ordered the same drink. As I reached for my drink my fingers slipped and I realized that I had spilt my drink on the unfortunately handsome guy next to me. I blushed as I said sorry and tried to wipe the liquor off his dress shirt. He smiled and said it was okay. Of course it wasn't though. I felt so embarrassed for being so stupid and clumsy in front of such a handsome guy.

At this moment I knew people around this handsome guy was staring at the both of us. By this time the guy was laughing… I thought he looked cute when he laughed. After he was all cleaned up he asked me if I wanted another drink. I smiled and nodded. Going to a club was good to meet new and interesting people. I learned from him that his job is very stressful and he always finds himself coming to this club here once every few nights, after work to release some steam before he gets all worked up about work. I was starting to enjoy the conversation even more when I felt a sweaty hand on my shoulder. I turned around. My friend was looking at me and winking, like she was trying to hint that I should hook up with the guy I was talking to. She whined to me about how I shouldn't just sit there at the club talking and drinking when I can go dance to the music with her and the other girls we came with. I invited the handsome guy I had spilled my first vodka on to join us.

As I danced the heat had started to rise in the room. I could smell sweat from all over the dance floor. My legs became weary while I danced and thought about how smelly the room was. My head was starting to hurt from the ear-splitting music. Soon I was all worn-out and asked my friends to leave the night club. They were also exhausted themselves so we all decided to head back home and call it a night. My friends and I had exchanged our telephone numbers with the handsome guy whom I have met. I could not drive back because of the alcohol I had consumed in my body, so I handed the keys over to a non-drinking friend to take us safely home.

The Wax

Even after his Cogito argument, Descartes is still unsure of the clarity of his knowledge. The external world, it seems to him, still seems more distinct and real than the percepetion that he exists.

As an experiment, Descartes takes a piece of wax and examines it its smell, texture, shape, colour - all these seem to Descartes to embody the distinct qualities that we associate with wax. However, subjecting it to the heat of the fire, the wax melts before his eyes, leaving him to ask What, then, was it I knew with so much distinctness in the piece of wax?

The second Meditation continues Descartes search for one thing he can be certain of - even if it turns out to be merely that he cannot be certain of anything.Order custom research paper on Descartes' Wax Example

Firstly, having dismissed sense experience as providing unreliable information, he turns inwards towards the mind itself in search of certainty.

Who produces these thoughts in his mind? Could it be God who does so? But then again, it might only be Descartes himself. Might the malignant demon be deceiving him by placing these perceptions in his mind?

It is here that Descartes arrives at his most famous argument, called the Cogito (after the Latin phrase cogito ergo sum, I think therefore I am). Descartes argues that, even if he is deceived, it must be true that he exists in order to be deceived.

But what exists? Descartes then begins the process of investigating what it is that he can rightly claim to be, rejecting in turn the idea of the body, or a spirit like wind or fire spread throughout his body, until finally arriving at the notion of a thinking thing.

Lastly, Descartes compares his new-found knowledge with the apparent clarity of the existence of external objects (which at first seem more clear). However, on examining such a thing as a piece of wax he finds that everything which he thought he knew about it - its shape, texture, smell, etc. - are in reality illusions. Furthermore, he is convinced that the intellect is the thing that is resposible for all knowledge about the world, and is itself most clearly known.

Descartes argument here is that the melted wax - although apparently the same thing as the solid piece - retains almost none of the qualities which he considered as defining it. Furthermore, he argues, the wax seems capable of other changes - of shape, volume, etc. - which would make it still more alien to its original state. It seems then that the wax, and by comparision all other physical things, are in reality nothing.

The only thing which gives physical objects reality, according to Descartes, is the understanding that the mind has of them. So, the wax as perceived by the senses is unreal, changing; but the wax as understood by the intellect abides by certain laws, changes according to certain conditions and can be understood through scientific experiment.

In the early seventeen hundreds, after the establishment of both New England and the Chesapeake, many similarities and differences arose between the two settlements. Some of the similarities and differences included such things as family life, economy, life expectancy, and society.

In the Chesapeake area, the life expectancy and general healthiness of the settlers was dangerously low. Diseases like malaria, typhoid, and dysentery had a deadly effect on the inhabitants of the area, cutting 10 years off the life expectancy. Family life in the Chesapeake was also a problem. Women were very scarce which made a strong family life almost impossible. Unmarried pregnancies were everywhere and marriages did not usually last for very long due to a death of one of the partners. This lifestyle was greatly contrasted in the area of New England. New Englanders enjoyed clean water and moderate temperatures that slowed the spread of diseases among the people. The people of New England actually had a life expectancy of ten years more than that of a person living in England. Also, in New England the family life was very strong and important. Women usually wed by their twenties and had around ten children, with about eight of those that would survive.

Another contrast in the lifestyle of the New Englanders to that of those in the Chesapeake was that women in the south would usually acquire land from their husbands after they died. In New England, however, the women would give up their property rights at marriage because widowhood was much less common and also because it did not promote the unity of marriage.

One common point between the two civilizations was the very prominent class distinctions. In both areas settlers also fought to restructure these systems. Rebellions such as Bacons 1676 rebellion in Virginia, and Leisler 168 to 161 rebellion in New York were due to the settlers unhappiness with the social class distinctions. Another similarity was that of relatively cheap and wages which almost tripled that of the English.

Write my Essay on Early colonial settlement cheap

Unity in New England was something that was not commonly found in the Chesapeake. New Englands puritan ways easily molded this tightly knight colony. In the Chesapeake this was not the case. Farmers were more of loners who did not move or live in very close communities. New England grew in a more organized way, unlike the Chesapeake that was very spontaneous in its growth. New England also established Harvard, the first college, in 166 as a training school for the ministry. This school opened only eight years after the founding of the colony. In Virginia, the first college of William and Mary did not open until 16, eighty-six years after Virginia was founded, this shows an example of the much more organized society of New England.

In conclusion, these two civilizations shared a few similarities, but many differences in their societies. But no matter how many differences they had, both colonies built up strong economies and became the cornerstones of the nation.
