High School versus college

There are many differences between college and high school. I experienced many of these differences my self. For example in high school, you need permission to go somewhere as far as college you decide where you want to go and when you want to go. Also, High School is mandatory and free, College is voluntary and expensive. I remember when my class was taking a trip to Disney world. I left school with my permission slip in hand and I was on my way home to get it signed. To my surprise, my mother was no where to be found. Then I said to myself, maybe she will be back in a couple of hours. The next morning I woke up and it was time for school, but to find out that my mother was not home yet. She was working a double shift at the hospital, so I missed an opportunity to go to Disney world. Now that I am in college, I don't have that problem, reason being that in college, everybody is considered an adult and you make your own decisions. Instead of your parents deciding whether you can participate in something, you must decide whether to participate in co-curricular activities.

In high school, you are mandatory to go to school and it's very much free. But since it's free, you have to make it to class on time, worry about attendance, check in with your home room teacher. You need to be there everyday. As far as college, you don't have to check in, you show up when you want to and there is no homeroom teacher to check in with. But if you don't go, it's like you throwing away a lot of money. Although the restrictions that you had in high school are not there in college, in college you are paying for your education. So you are still obligated to be there. Unless you just have all this money to waste.

Taking class trips always seemed to put me on a mission to find my parents to sign a permission slip. If they did not sign the slip, you could not go on the field trip. Although my parents let me go any way, I still hated the fact that I had to have them sign it all the time. My first year in college, when we went on trips, I never had to get anything singed. We simply just got on the bus and left. In college, it's up to you as to where you wanna go, and when.Buy custom High shool vs. college term paper

Personally I prefer college over high school more. Because, you get more freedom to do what you wanna do. You can go to school whenever you want to. If you go to school away from your home, there are no parents and you can leave class whenever you want. In high school, the only thing it did for me, was provide me with some memories and I would never want to go back to those days. Simply because I prefer college over high school.

Alberto Giacometti was born October 10, 101, in Borgonovo, Switzerland, and grew up in the nearby town of Stampa. The son of a successful post-Impressionist painter, Giacometti studied painting and sculpture in Geneva, before moving to Paris in 1 (Gohlke 00).

The works of Paul Czanne and Alexander Archipenko impressed Giacometti. He was also deeply affected by the masterpieces of Giotto and Tintoretto. But Giacometti's early works, however, reflected the influence of African, Oceanic art and Cubism (Bonnefoy 11).

During the 10s, Giacometti came into contact with the Paris avant-garde and became a distinguished figure in the Surrealist group. His first solo exhibition in 1 at Galerie Pierre Colle, confirmed this position as Surrealism's most important sculptor. During this time, many of his works have a nightmarish quality, with evocation of sexual violence and physical confinement (Bonnefoy 11). Examples famous during this time are Woman Having Her Throat Cut and Hands Holding The Void. In 15, Giacometti grew dissatisfied with the purely imaginary aspect of Surrealism, and began working from nature, using people he knew as models. During the early 140s, Giacometti developed a close friendship with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, and became involved with the Existentialist movement. It is during this period that he developed his characteristic style, producing the tall, emaciated figures for which he is best known. Giacometti's haunting sculptures have been described as a perfect metaphor of existential man solitary stripped figures inhabiting a vast and meaningless silent void (Bonnefoy 11). His solitary figures are imprisoned on large bases, and physical decay is represented through the sculptures' gouged surfaces. Man Pointing and City Square are his famous examples portraying these features in bronze.

Around 150, the artist turned with renewed interest to painting and printmaking. His portraits are nearly always frontal views of single immobile figures. Tireless in his efforts to define the human figure, he drew and sculpted the subjects close to him again and again. His brother Diego and his wife Annette, his most constant models, are represented in many of his works during this period (Bonnefoy 11).

In 155, Giacometti was honored with major retrospectives at the Arts Council Gallery in London And the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He received the Sculpture Prize at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh in 161 and the first prize for sculpture at the Venice Biennale of 16. In 165, Giacometti was also awarded the Grand National Prize for Art by the French government (Gohlke 00).

Giacometti died on January 11, 166, in Chur, Switzerland, with the reputation of being the most important sculptor of the middle decades of the twentieth century.

"Family Portrait" by Pink and "I'm okay" by Christina Aguilera express being hurt by family. The idea is to understand why these two songs are so much alike yet they are different. The lyrics are very emotional because the artists describe the hurt inflicted on them by family. The songs are belted out in such a powerful manner that the audience can only imagine what really went on. While Christina depends on her mother to survive, Pink believes her father can make things well again. Each artist uses their lyrics to explain the hurt they feel even though they are two different, but slightly similar kinds of pain.

In the song "Family Portrait" Pink sings about herself as a child torn apart by the possibility of her parents divorce. The child is hurt by this and does not want her parents to split up. " Can we work it out? Can we be a family? Daddy please don't leave." She wants her parents to work through the problems. It is understandable that the child wants her family to stay together. Certain lyrics in the song lead the listener to consider that the speaker thinks she and her mother are the reason her parents fight. "Mom will be nicer, I'll be so much better I'll do everything right." All children dream of having the perfect family and every young girl dreams of having her father around Pink believes that if her father stays everything will be okay.

It is easy to assume that the pain of divorce is difficult, but abuse is a different kind of pain. In Christina Aguilera's song "I'm Okay" the speaker sings about a pain of another kind abuse. "The song is about the abuse her father inflicted on her as a child and her mother. The lyrics are full of sorrow as she explains horrific things she witnessed as a child. . " Hurt me to see the pain across my mothers face, every time my father's fist would put her in her place." Unlike Pink's song, she sees her father as the reason for the pain. She wants him to know that her mother was her backbone, the person that pulled her through the pain. "Strength is my mother for all the love she gave I'm okay."

In the first verse of each song both artists sing in detail of not wanting to go home. In their eyes they see home as a battlefield where they are innocent spectators, watching their parents fight. They are also the ones who suffer in the long run. In Pink's song the speaker talks about the love she'll never have. "Never knowin what love could be." In Christina's song the speaker talks about the difficulty to allow someone to be close to her. It is apparent that ever since these incidents, these artists are hesitant about who they open their hearts to. They are afraid to let anyone near.

The lyrics are diverse, but the universal meaning is identical Images fade, but the pain remains the same.

The Red Scare was the time between WWI and WWII where the media fueled a fire against communism leading up to Americans' fear and The Palmer Raids. In every story, our government is the hero and communism is the sought out monster. The newspapers, portrayed communism out as the monster. They created a story that would sell and threaten Americans that life as they know it could end. Papers conveyed that communism was abusive to people, ignored human rights, and broke down family and Christian morals.

The climate of repression established during WWI continued after the war ended. This time, government interest focused on communists, Bolsheviks and reds generally. The climactic phase of this anti communist crusade occurred during the Palmer Raids of 118-11. A. Mitchell Palmer, Wilsons Attorney General, believed communism was eating its way into the homes of the American workman. In 11 Palmer intensified the attacks on political dissent that had begun during the war. The year 11 saw a great deal of social conflict. A wave of strikes, the passage of both Prohibition and Woman Suffrage, and the Chicago race riot took place. Although there were only about 70, 000 self professed Communists in the United States in 11, Palmer viewed them as responsible for a wide range of social ills, including bombings that took place in eight different cities by suspected anarchists. In December of 11, in their most famous act, Palmers agents seized 4 resident aliens. Those seized were placed on board a ship, the Buford, bound for the Soviet Union. Deportees included Emma Goldman the feminist, anarchist and writer. The Palmer Raids were a complete violation of U.S. citizens' rights that the media needed to be present in making communism an enemy, or there would have been more disputes over Palmer's actions. The U.S. government broke amendments IV, VI, VIII, IX, XIV, and I to carry out the raids. Palmer was eventually found guilty of wrongfully using government funds and all his credibility was lost and his hopes of someday running for the presidency vanished.

Probably the most famous case of false accusations that transpired during the Red Scare, was that of Sacco and Vanzetti. On April 15, 10, two men robbed and murdered a paymaster and his guard as they transferred $15,776 from the Slater and Morrill Shoe factory. Three weeks later, Italian immigrants and known anarchists, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, were accused and arrested for the crime, despite the little evidence against them. Following, a seven-week trial, Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted, on circumstantial evidence, of murder and sentenced to death. Seven years later, after numerous appeals, and immense public outcry, both men were executed for their "crimes." "If it had not been for this thing I might have lived out my life among scorning men. I might have died unmarked, unknown, a failure. This is our career and our triumph. Never in our full life could we hope to do such work for tolerance, for justice, for man's understanding of man, as now we do by accident. Our words our lives our pains nothing! The taking of our lives the lives of a good shoemaker and a poor fish peddler all." Nicola Sacco.

The Ku Klux Klan was most powerful during the 10s when memberships rose to nearly three million members. The Klan aimed to alienate non-whites and other religious groups from the rest of American society. The Klan was a hate group and displayed their hatred by killing thousands of people and destroyed the lives of many others. The KKK was based in the South, but expanded their hate across America. The Klan started small, but gained millions of members in just a few short years. The Klan preached its beliefs to all Americans and urged everyone to join for the good of their country. Thousands of innocent people were slain because of their backgrounds. The Klan's views were based on white supremacy and unfortunately carried into the minds of millions. Although the Klan lasted only a short while, they made a mark in history and were one of the largest organized groups in America at the time.Order Custom The Red Scare. paper

The Red Scare reflected the same anxiety about free speech and obsession with agreement that had characterized the war years. Our Constitution is a sacred document to the United States' existence. When we no longer look to it as the guiding base of our country, we have failed. During this period of time, the United States was no better than the tyrannical governments we fought less than two hundred years earlier.

George Balanchine was born in 104 in Russia. At age nine he began training at the imperial School in St-Petersburg but the school closed in 117 due to the Russian Revolution. Balanchine finally graduated in 11 and then he joined the Soviet State Ballet (also known as the Kirov Ballet). In 1 he was invited to the United States by young wealthy American named Lincoln Kirstein. In 14, with the help of Kirstein, Balanchine opened the School of American Ballet. The Metropolitan Opera Co. made the SAB its ballet company but Balanchine's previous troubles with management came back to haunt him. In Russia, Balanchine had tried to start his own ballet company but was unsuccessful due to the problems with the board at the Maryinsky Theater who thought that he did not respect tradition. Balanchine also created the Ballet Caravan and traveled to South America but had to disband it due to WWII.

It was in this period that Balanchine choreographed his first American ballet Serenade. It was danced to the music of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. Seeing as it was originally choreographed for his students, the ballet is quite simple relying mostly on arm movements. There a few male parts in that ballet because Balanchine did not have many male students at the time.

Balanchine's style has been described as a reaction to the Romantic anti-classicism that was the more popular style of dance in the European and Russian ballet when he first started out to dance. It could be called neo-classicism. Balanchine liked to put the emphasis on the dancing in his choreographies as opposed to the plot of the ballet.

Throughout his tenure as the Artistic Director for the New York City ballet Balanchine choreographed in total 175 ballets since the beginning of the company. He liked to think of himself as craftsman not a creator. His favourite similes were a cook or a cabinet maker, two skills he was quite good at. He also had a habit of marrying his protgs for whom he created ballets and made stars out of. He was married a total of five times.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on life of george balanchine

Balanchine believed that a ballet must be able to stand on its own apart from the music. He has been quoted of saying "We must first realize that dancing is an absolutely independent art, not merely a secondary accompanying one. I believe that it is one of the great arts. Like the music of great musicians, it can be enjoyed and understood without any verbal introduction or explanation..."

Balanchine is one of the most celebrated and prolific choreographers of the ballet world. His contribution is one of the most significant that there is. He died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease on April 0th, 18.
