Chapter 1, The Drop

I am the Orb. I am about ft. in diameter. I look a lot like a ball. I am being sent to the planet Echo 41. I am the ultimate war machine. I am to make peace with the native people. The natives are all hedgehogs about inches long, 1 inch in wide. They used to be dominating the planet until the Flood came. The Flood is a species of military like people that are trying to take over the planet. The Flood are about the size of an action figure, so it is almost impossible for the hedgehogs or the "Paq" to kill them. I, the Orb, can kill the Flood, but it will take me a while. When this drop ship I am on drops me, I am supposed to meet up with two "Paq" named Max & Joe. Here I go.

The landing was rough because the Flood didn't want me to drop. My men in the drop ship did a good job of killing them off and dropping me in a secret place. While there, my main radar and directional programs began running. Then I automatically adjusted my lens into focus and brightness to see on this new dark, barren planet. Although it was not always like this before the Flood came, I give off a slight greenish glow. I am reinforced with steel. I have two barrels on each side of my lens that allows me to see. They both shoot up to 00 rounds per minute. I also have one shotgun barrel sticking out below my lens that I can retract into myself while not in use. The hedgehogs are very strong and have their quills on their back that the guns the Flood shoot cannot penetrate. But if they are shot in their bellies or heads, they die quickly.Buy cheap Echo 421 term paper

I am doing a full systems check when I hear a noise behind me. I do a quick 60 degrees turn, but it is just a small bug. I use my twin thrusters to go slowly to where my program is telling me to go. I then hear a big noise behind me. It is a troop of Flood soldiers. Since I am so small, they have not yet seen me. I position myself wisely, then begin to fire rapidly right at them. I kill three but there is still one left. I pull back, and he is very confused. I then kill him easily because he was badly hurt.

Chapter , The New Info.

I then meet up with Max & Joe right where my program was telling me to go. I introduce myself and they give me the info. they knew about the positions of the Flood's weak and strong points. I follow them into their tunnels. They then take me to their friends, Bob and Jim. These four are the elite hedgehog fighters. They are some of the only ones left now that the Flood has overtaken this planet. Then while in these tunnels, I find out the terrible news that if the Flood capture this planet, it will be the last out of that the Flood need to form a super weaponThe Discombobulator.

I then decide that it will be wise for me to go out without the Paq and gather more information about the Flood's fighting power and technique. The Paq agrees, and I set out alone to see what I can find. Along the way I have to beat down some Flood but nothing is serious. My programs are telling me to go to a major Flood structure that is much larger than any of the other structures. I am holding something that could produce great power. I figure it is the point that the power from the other planets will link up with.

I charge up my small thrusters and punch it to the large structure. I stay well out of range and zoom in on the kind of protection. It is heavily guarded with twice as many Floods as I had predicted. I have a plan though and it is very risky.

Chapter , The Power

I go back to the tunnels and tell all the Paq to go to the structure and attack when I give them the signal. While they head out, I hit the boost and am there 0 minutes before they arrive. I bust my way inside by firing nonstop until I reach the inside of the building. Inside it is too quiet for a very special structure. I proceed on through a large door at the end of the hallway. I go through this door and I find hundreds of Flood creatures. I race back out of the building to find a safe spot.

I then signaled to the Paq to move in, and they did. I go in by myself and make a distraction. While their backs are turned, the Paq move in and wipe them out slowly but efficiently. I have the Paq secure the building and I go to the main room where I see an amazing sight. It is a super computer, the linking system, and something elsethe key to controlling the Flood. This specific part is only in this structure, so I have complete power at my chip tips. I research more and find that with the press of a button, little chips implanted in the brains of every Flood will explode, killing the entire Flood in seconds. This is to control population, but I am going to kill all of them.

Chapter 4, The Final Decision

After talking it over with the remaining government of the Paq and the government that sent me here, they decide to kill the entire Flood to restore peace to this galaxy. I select the nine planets the Flood is on in this galaxy, holding my breath and push the detonator. The entire Flood falls over. We all rejoice while the clean up of the bodies is going on.

The two of our governments join together on these nine planets and become the United Gov.'s. We keep this Discombobulation in service in case anyone tries to overtake us. I am allowed to live with the Paq and now I am to be one of the family.

The planet Echo 41 is no longer barren and dark. It is very bright, green, and has running water again. I have restored peace here for now and hope I will never be needed that much again. Although, if I am needed, I will carry out my duties as one of the Paq.

For airlines, business class is fare game

Brad Foss

Boston Sunday Globe, October 1, 00Custom writing service can write essays on airlines

Summary With airlines expected to lose nearly $8 billion for the second year in a row, the industry has become less generous with business customers who want to fly on the cheap. The airline industries have added more restrictions. Carries have increased fees for paper tickets and extra baggage. The airlines no longer offer free alcoholic drinks on international ones. Also carriers have gotten particularly tough with corporate customers, refusing to let them use discounts negotiated by their employer when they purchase cheaper fares aimed at leisure travelers. The cheapest leisure fares are about one-sixth the price of typical business fares. If customers buy cheap fares at leisure travelers, the chances that they have to follow a lot of restrictions such as these tickets are nonrefundable tickets; customers will have to pay a fee to fly standby; and those customers who miss their flights will have to buy brand new tickets. Travelers think because of the airlines add more restrictions and fees are really annoying, so the benefits of cheap tickets generally outweigh the downside.

Bias Air travelers began to curtail spending roughly 18 months ago as a result of the economic downturn. Also it is affected by last year's terrorist attacks. To survive, major carriers undertook a wide range of cost-cutting measures. Employees were laid off. Planes were grounded. Schedules were shrunk. But in contrast, the stricter rules, extra fess, and scaled back services aggravate travelers. According to David Swierenga, chief economist at the Washington based Air Transport Association said "the industry is losing its shirts, is flat on its back and is looking for every dollar or revenue that it can find." If business customers want to fly on the cheap, the airlines will add hefty fees with tight restrictions. These carriers hope to generate tens of millions of dollars by charging customers more fees on these cheap tickets.

Reaction Now a day, it is not easy to find cheap tickets without restrictions and fees. The question for the travelers is "should they buy the refundable fares?" To me, travelers have to be careful about making their flights and sticking to their original travel itineraries because they will have to pay for fees if they decide to change the schedules or cancellations. Also if travelers cannot decide their schedules, they should be willing to pay the fares without the restrictions or refundable fares. Also, it would be better way for both travelers and airlines, if travelers would be willing to pay a touch more and carriers are easy on the restrictions and fixed the problems that cause delays.

The debate between dualists and physicalists is one of especially interesting qualities. A dualist is a philosopher that believes that the human mind consists of two very distinct, individual and intertwined pieces. One piece is the physical brain. Chemical reactions and electrical impulses course through the brain in order to produce sensations through the body. Combined with these physical characters is a soul, or an organism that interprets these impulses in the brain. According to the dualist, it is the soul that creates the individual and unique sensations inside your brain. On the other hand, a physicalist would argue that the experiences occurring in the brain, are nothing more than that, physical impulses. You taste the chocolate, the brain interprets the different impulses, the taste is created, and that is that. Nothing further, no soul involved, nothing more elaborate than the brain.

Physicalists argue that explanations for tastes and brain functions will be explained through scientific research, such as atomic structures and chemical makeups have been researched and proven through science, in essence saying that physicalists have no theory for their beliefs, rather they choose to wait for science to verify their beliefs. On the other hand, a dualist replies to such an argument that those processes of science would not provide a necessary answer to the dilemma. A dualist points out that the two processes are completely different. On the one hand, when a scientist breaks down the chemical makeup of a substance, he does only that, understands what makes up that particular material. There is no explanation as to the cause of a particular taste, feel, or view of the object. Why does it look the way it does to me [the dualist]? Why does it affect my [the dualist] taste buds in this way?

Both arguments make very valid points, however I tend to lean towards Nagel's approach that perhaps there is no soul, but that the brain has something more than just a physical process inside of it, that it operates on a mental plane (pg. 4). This would explain the learned approach to certain situations. When you experience something that causes pain, your brain creates a reaction that tells your body it's hurt. However, how is it that we learn to avoid the action that brought us pain? Leaning towards Nagel's non-soul/mental observation, perhaps the brain does operate on a level other than strictly physical. This would explain how schools of fish, or dolphins learn to defend themselves against sharks, while humans combine to form powerful nations in order to provide themselves with security and whatnot.

The brain is a very complex organism, and it's true operations are still a mystery to man. Both physicalists and dualists provide valid arguments as to their though processes, however, neither sit completely well with me, and I tend to lean towards a physical organism that operates on more than one plane; on a physical plane as well as a mental one.Custom Essays on Dualism and Skepticism Overviews

Skepticism, from what I'm gathering, is the equivalent to that immature little brother we all know and have to love. The arguments of a skeptic are virtually the same as those of a child. "Nuh uh." "How do you know?" "Why is that?" "So what?" "And?" It is a mass of mindless arguments that there seems to be no answer to.

According to Nagel, a skeptic is someone who believes that "You can't know on the basis of what's in your mind that there's no world outside it." "There may or may not be an external world, and if there is it may or may not be completely different from how it seems to you there's no way for you to tell." When approached with the argument that there must be some form of external causes to explain our experiences, they counter by saying that these "experiences" are unclear to a person because they have never been experienced directly. All experiences are taken in through observation by the mind.

Therefore the argument stands that the mind might still be creating the world you believe you are in. This leaves you without any concept for comparison. As Nagel put it "Impressions and appearances that do not correspond to reality must be contrasted with others that do correspond to reality, or else the contrast between appearance and reality is meaningless." He then goes on to say "He is kidding himself, because it couldn't be true that the physical world doesn't really exist, unless somebody could observe that it doesn't exist."

Skepticism therefore seems to fall to the views of verificationism. Verificationism allows the establishment of ideas through comparisons of what we are familiar with. Skeptics believe that the mind is something prone to miscommunication of what it observes; thereby allowing reality to be completely different from what it takes in. This view is somewhat far fetched, because at the same time that it says the brain mistakes what it sees, it attempts to claim that the brain creates all you see. So you are faced with an absent minded professor. Brilliant in his ideas, with no idea what he is saying. This sort of contradiction tends to make skepticism a harder view to listen to as well as accept.

LET'S

TALK

ABOUT STRESS Help with essay on STRESS

What is stress?

What does 'stress' mean? You are about to write an exam? You're stressed. Awaiting for your results? You're stressed. Relationship lousy ? You're stressed . Problem at work ? Health worries? Too much pressure all around ? OK, so you're stressed. Isn't everyone.

Life without stimulation or challenge would be intolerably boring and reasonable amounts of pressure heighten our arousal and performance.

Like job satisfaction, stress is not a precise term and it is used in slightly different ways by different authors. Approaches to the study of stress have taken different forms, as shown below

· as an organism's response to a demand or to events that challenge it (Seyle, 176);

· as an event external to the individual that places demands upon him/her (Kahn, 164);

· as a characteristic or the environment that poses a threat to the individual (Caplan et al.,175);

· as a state that results from a misfit between a person's skills and the demands placed upon him/her (McGrath, 176).

Stress is seen either as something external to the individual, or as an internal state or as an interaction between the two.

Why the Concern about "stress"

· Stress can be DANGEROUS- lack of concentration can cause accidents.

· Stress can be COSTLY- key people may have to leave because of ill health.

· Stress can be DAMAGING- irritability , let alone poor commitment to the employer, may give an organisation a poor public image.

The Costs of Stress.

The total annual cost to the country of work related accidents and ill-health is estimated by the health and safety Executive to be between 11 billion pounds and 16 billion pounds (Davies and Teasdale 14). 7 billion of this total is accounted for by workforce stress (Rochez 14).

Between 50 and 60 million working days are lost through stress.(Institute of Management 16).

Almost 1 in employees suffer from occupational STRESS ( European Commission 1).

· The pupils of the eye dilate

· The heart beats faster to get extra blood to the tense muscles and this raises blood pressure

· The extra blood for our muscles means that we need more oxygen and so we breathe more quickly

UNDERSTANDING STRESS

The release of adrenaline and steroids associated with stress causes various physiological changes, such as

· increased blood pressure;

· increased muscle tension;

· increased sweating;

· release of glucose and fats into the blood;

· dry mouth.

These physiological changes can be directly related to the observed outcomes of stress in individuals.

However, studies have suggested as association between stress and the following illnesses

· long-term depression;

· ulcers;

· allergies;

· headaches;

· coronary heart disease;

· cancer;

· asthma.

TACKLING THE SYMPTOMS OF STRESS

When you have confronted the cause, you can deal with the effects. There are two ways; you can prevent stress build-up by increasing your energy levels.

At the same time, you should treat the symptoms. For plenty of energy you need a good night's sleep. Cut back on coffee, tea and cola (it's the caffeine in them), especially late at night. Watch your alcohol intake and the cigarettes.

Eat a balanced diet- take extra vitamins B an C for your energy levels, and try natural herbal remedies. Get a good night's sleep every night and you're half way there.

It is important to eat regular meals- do not skip meals. Try and keep the consumption of convenience foods to the minimum, as many of them contain large amounts of sugar and salt.

Try and drink at least a pint of water a day to offset dehydration.

Consuming large amounts of alcohol will neither solve your problems or improve your health. REMEMBER the recommended maximum levels of alcohol PER WEK are

MALE 8 units

FEMALE 1 units

INCLUDE RELAXATION IN YOUR DAILY SCHEDULE

It is VITAL to include a period of relaxation each day. Not only it will help increase your coping resources, it will make the remainder of your time more productive.

Some people do this by doing something they have already discovered to be relaxing. For example

· Listening to music

· reading

· having a bath- with perhaps the addition of essential oils

· just sitting for a few minutes and daydreaming

EXERCISE

It takes as little as only three thirty minute sessions to increase your level of physical fitness. Although the exercise may make you tired it will also stimulate you and help you to combat the negative effects of stress.

Exercise will

· release the tension

· make our bodies stronger and better able to cope with the debilitating effects of stress

· make us feel better about ourselves

· increase our energy and stamina

CHOOSE AN EXERCISE THAT YOU ENJOY!!!!!

TAKING REGULAR BREAKS

Taking regular breaks is important.

It helps you work efficiently and to be less tired at the end of the day.

1. If you are going to be working on one task all day, take a walk at lunch time.

. Take a couple of minutes break, every so often throughout the day, to change your position.

. Allow yourself 10 minutes to yourself a day. Pencil in an appointment with yourself.

DO TAKE YOUR ANNUAL LEAVE- IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOUR HEALTH……

To tackle the actual symptoms, relaxation techniques really do help, so try massage, meditation, exercise and yoga. NONE OF THESE WILL MAKE THE CAUSE OF YOUR STRESS GO AWAY- ONLY YOU CAN DO THAT -BUT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT IS THE BEST WAY TO START..

If any of these symptoms of stress sound familiar or if you are experiencing two or more of these symptoms, it very likely you are not facing up to something that's bothering you and causing you stress. It's important you acknowledge this problem and tackle it as soon as possible.

When William Shakespeare wrote the play Macbeth, he made a point to make appearance and reality two very different things. Practically nothing in the play is what it appears to be. When the witches chant, ?Fair is foul and foul is fair? in Act I, Scene I, they are foreshadowing the appearance versus reality theme. This line that they chant means things that look good are really bad and vise versa.

At first, the witches? predications about Macbeth sound like good news, but as one soon finds out, they lead to death and destruction. Also, it was quite ironic when Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth, ?look like th? innocent flower, but be the serpent under?t? Yet, another appearance that is that is drastically different the reality is how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth both seem to achieve happiness with all their murdering, but in reality, they only gain torment, and, as we see later, death. Also, Lady Macbeth seems to be the bloodthirsty one, but can?t kill Duncan, while Macbeth seems to always be scared, but kills the king and the guards.

Of course, there are also the physical differences between appearance and reality, such as in Act II, Scene I, when Macbeth thinks he sees a dagger floating in front of him, but can?t touch it.When William Shakespeare wrote the play Macbeth, he made a point to make appearance and reality two very different things. The young people of Singapore are the hope of the future. In spite of all our parents and other adults who take care of us, the time is not far when we have to take over the reins from them and run not only our own lives, but the country as well. It is true that there are many things that we have in Singapore that can prompt us to take things easy and be content. It is so tempting to do nothing and just enjoy the benefits. But there is actually a lot that young people of our age can do to bring this country to greater heights. We often think of what our futures lays ahead of us. As a youth of Singapore, I share the same views, dreams, aspirations and concerns of a normal teenager too.

Society sees the youth of Singapore as spoilt brats who only craze for materialistic things, who worry about their boy-girl relationships. It is even worse when the society claims that we do not show any concern about what is happening around the world or in our own country. The truth is that our youths are constantly suppressed and overloaded with schoolwork and cramming for exams that they have little or no time to bother much about issues touching and concerning our society.

Teenagers will have different needs compared to a young child. As teenagers, we tend to develop different interests. We will also begin to go out with our friends more frequently, instead of going out with our parents or family members. Peer pressure also starts to set in. the problem starts when the attention the teenagers want is their parents' attention. Parents living in the twenty-first century are usually so caught up with work and will not be able to spend quality and quantity time with their teenager sons and daughters. When they do not interact with their children, they will not know what their children's needs are. Therefore parents splurge on gifts and branded items to satisfy their children's 'needs'. However, gifts are not what their children want. When teenagers do not get attention from their parents, they will get the attention they desire by committing certain crimes that will anger their parents. I feel that parents should set aside a good amount of time for their children and I can say that pampering them with gifts, money and expensive things will not do the trick.

Today, Singapore again faces physical and economic threats. We have to deal with terrorism and the current SARS outbreak. Our economy has lacked shine for over two years. We worry about our parents' paycut and the possibility of retrenchment. When the sole breadwinner of the family loses his job, we suffer as well. We should also be resigned to the fact that the government decides to reduce cost by cutting the employers' CPF (Central Provident Fund) rates and increasing the GST (Goods and Service Tax) by 1%. Help with essay on Aspirations and Concerns of a Singaporean Youth

As a youth myself, we are constantly concerned about how we will fare academically in school so as to make ourselves and our parents proud and also balance our life with sports, leisure and play. In a 15 Survey, it was found that when asked what youth hope to do in the 1st century, most of the answers were in relation to personal or individual goals. Of the remaining, only 14.% were in relation to the community or nation whereas only .8% were in relation to global roles. An interesting finding is that 5.% actually have no idea what they would be doing. A related finding is found in the 000 National Youth Council survey where it is found that 55% had not made plans to pursue their life goals.

As for me, my three most important aspirations are to own my own house and car and moving on to further education. Many students work part-time in order to earn pocket money. Quite a substantial number also work to gain experience and to occupy their spare time. They are not required to work in order to cover their education fees but they take up part-time work just to earn extra cash to support their lifestyle which covers daily expenses, food, clothes, and on anything they want. A very small proportion of youth put their part-time earnings into savings or education. Many are concerned about their friends, future career, or even physical appearance.

It is true that the winds of change are blowing all the time. Whether we will be the windmill that is powered by the winds and in turn generate growth, or we will be the concrete wall upon which the winds blows in vain will decide future events for the next fifty years, maybe more.

This picture would interest a Sociologist because as we know sociology is the study of human social life, groups and societies and this picture clearly shows that. It shows people around joining each other to make a Global Village. So this would be the study of human social life and groups.

This picture shows as a mosque at night time near the holy month of RAMADAN (where you cant eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset) for Muslim people around the world. This would interest a Social Institutions Sociologist, because they are the ones studying about family, religion, and politics and how they affect peoples lives.

This picture is a cartoon of suicide, which is really becoming a part of sociologist's studies. The numbers of suicides are increasing today around the world. Some sociologists argue that suicide is a very personal decision and it should be up to the person but some are saying it is not the right thing to do, so there are lots of arguments about suicide in today's world and this picture will definitely catch a sociologist's eye.

This is a picture of family members joining each other to celebrate EID (A special day after RAMADAN among Muslims) this would also interest a Social Institutions Sociologist because it is Family and Social life gatherings.

This is just a definition of Sociology but not in words form but in picture form. It shows us people are being magnified and that means the study of human social life, groups and societies and that is what Sociology is and I am positive this will interest all type of Sociologists.

4. Sociology of Missions

The field is defined as the study of the diffusion or spread of religions from a social scientific perspective. The social sciences used in the website include sociology, social psychology, anthropology, political science, and economics. However, I would not excude any attempt to examine the empirical side of the spread of religions by systematic methods that allow for the study to be replicated and the findings shown to be false. More often they will be modified or elaborated.

The social scientific study of missions overlaps to some extent, sometimes to a great extent, with missiology. This is because missiology, which is the study of missions by religious scholars, may employ the social sciences to analyze data on the spread of religions. However, missiology is an interdisciplinary field of study maintained by religious groups and is therefore basically theological or normative in approach. It is useful, therefore, to distinguish missiology from the social scientific study of religions. source (http//www.sompsite.com)
