In Atwood's "This is a Photograph of Me", the speaker is almost begging to be searched for and almost mocking the reader that looks. In an old distorted photograph, no figure below the water will ever be found. Interpreting this poem in light of the woman poet's torn identity, the speaker is a drowned 'Society's Woman' gone poet. The poet is pointing out in the background fragments of her domestic life (the house), and is indeed drowning in a typically feminine archetype, water, which distorts the speaker. The speaker goes on to tell us that of her marginality as an artist in telling us that one cannot tell where or how big or small she is (even though she is the center), leaving the reader to realize she will never be recognized.

Though not as upfront as Atwood, Levertov presents a similar picture of polarity in her poem, "Hypocrite Women". In the structure of the poem, too, the men women protect and council are on the other side of the spectrum from a woman considering her own dreams. Unfortunately for the women Levertov is admonishing, supporting men comes first. Levertov is also pointing out that these women's image of themselves comes from men's opinions about them or their body, or a man's ideal image of femininity (often society's ideal image as well) they are trying to fulfill. This is symbolized by the vagina the man in the poem thinks is ugly and the women's inability to defend it because what men say and how they feel holds much, too much weight for them.

In her poem "My Trouble", Diane Wakoski faces the dilemma not of back burning for a man per se but of 'keeping her place' because it is what is expected by society as a whole. Wakoski's trouble is that she has the spirit to go out and take the world as a courageous woman, but she mockingly tells us all she can do is sew and cook. This shows the deviation between what she would like to spend her life as a woman and how society tells her she can. Perhaps the deviant and splendorous variations of sewing and cooking Wakoski finds are modeled after things she would like to be doing instead of these societally deemed 'women tasks'. Because she is a woman, Wakoski is "usually taken for somebody's secretary" and for a woman who wants more from the world than what social standards will give her, to be mistaken for a secretary is a painful insult. Perhaps she is poor and has nothing to say because our culture would not let women earn money (and still unequally) or speak up. Wakoski's "My Trouble' shows conflict of Women Vs. Culture, Levertov's "Hypocrite Woman" shows conflict of Women's selves Vs. Male neediness and expectations and Atwood's, "This is a Photograph of Me" illustrates the conflict between Women Vs. Artist or Women Vs. Success.

This essay will be finding the similarities in ideas of love between Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "Sonnets From The Portuguese, XIV" and William Shakespeare's "Sonnet 10." They both have the theme that you should not look at a person for what they are, but for who they are, and love them rather than their looks, mannerisms, and general outward appearance, "Do not say 'I love her for her smile - her look," and "I love to hear her speak, yet well I know that music hath a far more pleasing sound." Shakespeare is also saying in the last quote that to love someone truly you must be able to put up with their imperfections, as no one is perfect.

This is what these two poems have in common in their philosophies on love, they have both realised that you can love someone for their looks, but this approach is often ridden with heart-break, and to really love someone, and have a long lasting relationship, one should look at the object of affection's personality rather than their outward appearance, "As any she belied with false compare."

There is a slight difference in the views on the opposite sex, as the two writers are not of the same sex, and also from different time periods (William Shakespeare lived from 1564 to 1616, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning from 1806 to 1861). It may seem that while Shakespeare is definitely in love in Sonnet 10, he often talks about his mistress, with almost a feeling of ownership, and is obviously comfortable with pointing out her imperfections, "My mistress," and "the breath that from my mistress reeks." While this may show that Shakespeare is truly in love, I'm sure his mistress wouldn't be very happy about the way he is talking about her. In Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV on the other hand, Browning never once talks of her "beloved" in any way insulting, save about what he should say and not say, which may show either a submission to the traditional chauvinist male view that the male of a relationship is the superior member, which was common in at that period of time, or she thinks to highly of her "beloved" to want to insult him. Shakespeare on the other hand may not hold this kind respect for his mistress, for instance he calls her his "mistress" more times than his "love," expressing that he may feel some sense of ownership over her rather than a mutual respect. This respect does not seem to appear in Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV, as the comments Browning says to her "beloved," are laced with reasons why he should love her for herself and not her looks, so as not to upset him if he thought she was correcting his behaviour, "Be changed, or change for thee and love, so wrought, may be unwrought so."

Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV is trying to show the reader that the person they are in love with may not always look as they do, nor act like they do, and so the reader should look at them from a long term perspective, "Beloved, may Be Changed, or change for thee and love, so wrought may be unwrought so," meaning love of a persons looks may suddenly be staunched if the person looses those looks. In a similar way, Shakespeare is saying in Sonnet 10 that you should not compare people's features to others, as long as you love that person's features, it does not matter, "I think my love is rare, As any she belied with false compare."Custom writing service can write essays on Comparing Sonnets 130 and Sonnets From the Portuguese VII

Both poems are also saying that an individual may have seen better than what they behold before them in their love, yet this method of falling in love, of searching for imperfections in someone you love, is fated with mishap "If hair be wires, black wires grow on her head." Rather than this it is much better to love the person for who they are, and accept them for who and what they are, "My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground." The last quote sums up Shakespeare's Sonnet 10, showing that he doesn't 'worship' his mistress like some sort of deity, and is aware of the fact that she is only human, and therefore isn't perfect. Although if she read this poem she might think he was too aware.

Sonnet 10 was obviously not for it's subjects eyes, as she would probably not feel too happy once Shakespeare had pointed out all of her flaws, "If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun." I think it was more of an advisory to those looking for advice about love, showing them that if they spend all their life looking for the perfect person to fall in love with then they will get no where, as no one is perfect. Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV also seems to be aimed at giving advice to others. While it may have been intended for it's subjects eyes, it says that you should love someone for who they are not what they are, "If thou must love me, let it be for nought Except for love's sake only," and so carries the same theme as Sonnet 10 in that it is telling you not to look at imperfections in your beloved, and rather look at them as a whole. Both poems are showing you in an advisory manner reasons why you should fall in love, and shows reasons why you shouldn't do so.

In conclusion, both poems carry a heavy theme that you shouldn't go through life looking for a perfect partner, as you will never find one because no one is perfect, and you may also find that the people you don't think are right for you are, because all you are doing is looking at their imperfections rather than their whole self and personality. This is shown in Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV by Elizabeth Barrett Browning lines like, "and love, so wrought, may be unwrought so," and in William Shakespeare's Sonnet 10 with quotes such as, "My Mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground."

I have so many great memories that it is impossible to share them all with you tonight. I am sure that everyone here has wonderful times in their lives that are unforgettable. Think about it. Your tenth birthday, your first valentine, when you got your driver's license, having a blast when the year turned to 000. All of these memories are special in their own way. One of my memories that I would like to share with everyone tonight is about taking risks. If you don't take risks then you cannot enjoy the outcome. If Bill Gates listened to everyone and didn't play around with computers all day, he probably wouldn't be where he is today. If the guy who plays the lottery says "Ah, these numbers are never going to hit!" and loses to the numbers he had been playing for years, then what??, then what?? The same goes for me!

I moved down to Tampa about two years ago, not knowing anyone but my step-sister who was cool enough to let me stay with her, for a price of course. I had to run out, get a job, enroll in school, and just start becoming mature. It was tough and the thought of moving back to New Jersey crossed my mind several times. Lucky for me I got a job, met some real cool people, started having a good time, and eventually ended up in school. Now I am working for my AS degree at this beautiful technical institute, making money parking cars, and having a blast every opportunity I get.

In conclusion I would just like to remind everyone that taking risks isn't always a bad thing. Sure there is a negative side, but is it worth not taking the chance??? I am glad I took the risk of moving down to tampa, being 17 years old, with some clothes and no money, and generating that life into a 0 year old, with some clothes and no money!!Custom Essays on my life

One of this century's icons in photography Henri-Cartier Bresson, thought to be the Father of modern day Street Photography, transformed the field through his concept of "the decisive moment." He defined it as "the simultaneous recognition in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as a precise organization of forms that give that event its proper expression." In other words, the dramatic climax of a picture where everything falls perfectly into place. Bresson's photographs excel in composition without cropping his negatives, he had a unique ability to capture the fleeting moment in which the subject's significance is revealed in form, content, and expression. Cartier-Bresson utilizes a Leica 5 Midtown Mediation camera, in fact, he popularized this small, portable camera. The general format that he incorporates is black and white silver gelatin in 11" x 14" and 16" x 0" sizes. The photograph, "Behind the Gare St. Lazare", 1, a man jumping through a puddle, shows the French photographer's ability to catch the moment in which an event is about to take place. This picture is one of intensity and depth, it brings out his creativity and ability as a photographer. The contrasts of light-to-dark and dark-to-light is brought about all throughout the image. His ability of self-expression and compassion for his artwork, is what makes this photograph so full of life and passion. The style of the picture is smooth, and soft, yet at some angles it looks harsh and full of shadows. It brings out the complexities and intricacies that a photographer has to go through in order to achieve such a perfect picture. He also makes popular the saying "being at the right place at the right time," because this is just what this photograph demonstrates. It also catches the attention of any viewer, just in the simple way the man is literally above the ground jumping over the puddle, it's an amazement to any eye. The sense of shadowing that pertrude throughout the image, is in itself a great accomplishment. Bresson captivated his audiences through his marvelous works, he captured the essential quality and fineness of an object and multiplied it by . Name Norma Jean Mortenson (Marilyn Monroe)

Date of Birth 1st June 16

Appearance Fairly tall, dyed blonde hair, a well-known model.

Occupation Showbiz Hollywood actress.Order custom research paper on Marilyn Monroe

Case Monroe died 5th August 16. She died either of Murder or suicide.

Was it suicide The evidence for suicide is listed below.

Marilyn Monroe was born on 1st June 16 in Los Angeles. She had no family to begin with. She had no idea who her father was and her mother suffered from mental illness and depression.

Due to these facts she had to either go in to children's homes, which she detested or fostered by cruel and mean parents. The memories of this would not go away and she suffered a miserable early life.

Suffering an early miserable life.

This one reason is an important factor in the investigation.

When she was in her teens she got her life back with a family that cared and loved her and at the age of 16 the family had to move away and could not afford for her to go with them. She had a tough decision, to get married to the next-door neighbor who was 1 or to go back to the old foster parents.

She knew she shouldn't really get married at such a young age but she had no choice and she did. So she got married to Jimmy Dougherty. It lasted 6 months and was a failure. She had marriages which had the same thing happen to all of them.

Her second marriage to Joe Di Maggio a famous baseball player was even worse. Monroe became an actress and therefore became a sex symbol and Di Maggio physically hurt Monroe and she ended the marriage. She was really depressed.

Her next marriage also did not last long. She married Arthur Miller and while in this marriage she was addicted to medicinal drugs such as painkillers and sleeping tablets. She also had three miscarriages.

Three marriages which all ended in divorce.

Addicted to drugs

Three miscarriages.

All of these reasons could have led to her death.

While still in the film industry she made many close companions such as the likes of Frank Sinatra and the two Kennedy brothers. She had affairs with all three of them.

The affair with JFK started in 161. She was deeply attracted to him. On his birthday Kennedy's wife did not attend. Rumours said that she knew about he affair. This is also the time where Monroe sang the famous "Happy Birthday" song. So because Kennedy thought that his wife knew about the affair he ended the affair. Monroe was devastated to hear the news.

To get back on track she then had an affair with Robert Kennedy. This affair was the last weeks of her life. In July 16 Monroe was reported to have an abortion. She had become pregnant to Bobby Kennedy.

He therefore broke off the relationship. She was very sad.

The FBI's told the Kennedy brothers that the two affairs must never be mentioned again.

Monroe had three affairs which all fell to pieces.

She had another chance to have a baby, but had an abortion.

She must have felt her life was not worth living.

Soon her career and health was also in tatters. After her acting break she was fired in 16 due to heavy overdoses of drugs and drinking. She had hangovers the next morning and was always late to work and was sacked.

Now everything she worked so hard for has gone.

She has hardly anything to live for.

Was it murder The murder case is very strong. The evidence is vital to the case.

It all started on the 4th of August, the day before the death of Marilyn Monroe.

Eyewitnesses reported to see Robert Kennedy at Monroe's house. It was said that Monroe knew information about the Kennedy's that could lead to their downfall.

Monroe had not written a suicide note which is most common with suicide deaths. She must have had requests and reasons for her death and would have written a note. But there was no note found.

On the night of the 4th August a woman kept ringing Monroe's house saying " Leave Bobby alone!" This could have been threats from Robert Kennedy's wife. Could she have been involved in the death of Marilyn Monroe.

The Mafia are alleged to have tapped the phone of Monroe so they could get evidence of an affair and bring the Kennedy's down.

The housekeeper who usually goes to see how Ms Monroe is when she arrives at the house did not do her daily duties and it took her 4 hours to find Monroe dead and call the police. Why was this? Was she also in the plot?

Marilyn Monroe had special plans for the near future which involved her ex husband Joe Di Maggio. She was going to get married again to Mr Di Maggio later on in that month. Therefore she would have none of the slightest ideas to kill herself.

The police also thought that the body had been tampered with. Someone must have been in the house apart from Monroe.

If Monroe was supposedly to have killed herself then she had to have an overdose of drugs. However latest technology from our science labs have proven that if Monroe killed herself then with all the poison found in her body, she had to have swallowed a maximum of 5-88 pills.

In most overdose cases between 8-10 pills are taken. There is no way she could have swallowed all those pills. So the reason for her death was that she injected herself with poison or somebody else did.

When searched on her body there was no injected marks, so the poison must have been injected elsewhere.

This case is very confusing and many theories have been made. Some of which are shown below.

The Mob did it because of their fury with the Kennedy's.(Chuck Giancana)

The mob had Marilyn killed to embarrass Robert Kennedy. The plan failed as Robert Kennedy foiled the plan by removing the evidence against him.

Robert Kennedy, with agents of the Secret Service and CIA.(Robert Slatzer)

Robert did not inject the poison but like a general gave the command.

An unsuspected murder was the ambulance driver. (James Hall)

James Hall claims that the ambulance driver called to the scene when the body was discovered killed her. Just when Marilyn started to come around the doctor arrived, Dr Greenson. He then injected her.

There is no real solution that tells us who killed Monroe and why she would kill herself.
