Imagination has always played an important role in shaping one's characteristics. We see imagination playing similar role in Macbeth's life before and after he murders King Duncan. Before murdering Duncan, Macbeth imagines a dagger leading him to the king's chamber. After murdering King Duncan, Macbeth hears some voices saying "Glamis hath murder'd sleep and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more." It seems that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth guilty of what they have done and it is their conscious that is driving them crazy. Macbeth also sees some ghostly images of Banquo later in the play when he assassinates him.

Just before Macbeth is about to kill Duncan, he sees a dagger before him. It is his conscious and it seems as if he is too tensed by the idea of killing the King. He imagines all the blood dripping from the dagger. He also sees the dagger directing him to King Duncan's chamber. While he is imagining the dagger, he also imagines the nature which seems dead and how the nightmares must be torturing King Duncan as he is asleep, "Now o'er the one half world, nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse the curtain'd sleep". Although Macbeth visualizes the entire horrifying thoughts (relating to killing Duncan) gush through his mind, he gets the deed done.

After Macbeth kills Duncan he hears some voices saying "Macbeth has murder'd sleep, therefore Macbeth will sleep no more". This again is his conscious as he and Lady Macbeth feel guilty about what they have done. Macbeth imagines that he has murdered the sleeping king Duncan and therefore stealing his own sleep. Although no ones knows about this deed, Macbeth feels extremely guilty and is not able to concentrate on what is going to happen next. He seems to have been lost in his own imagination. "I'll go no more I'm afraid to think what I have done; Look on't again I dare not. "

The last key imagination that Macbeth envisions is the ghostly images of Banquo at the dinner table. Macbeth has invited some guest to dinner at his castle. As everyone is beginning to start their meal, one of the murderers of Banquo comes and breaks this news to Macbeth. Macbeth is pleased to hear the news. As he comes back to the table, he sees a ghostly image of Banquo sitting at his chair. This again is Macbeth's imagination. The ghost seems to frighten Macbeth and Macbeth starts talking absolute nonsense in front of everybody, "Thou canst say I did it never shake Thy gory locks at me." In this part Macbeth is talking to the ghost claiming that he hasn't done the killing. Another example, "Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; thou hast no speculation in those eyes which thou dost glare with.", this is another part from the same scene when the ghost disappears and then reappears again. In this scene Macbeth is totally occupied with his imagination of Banqou. All this drama led to the dismissal of the guests in a very inappropriate and dishonorable way.Write my Essay on Macbeth's Imaginations

Imagination appears to have played a significant role in Macbeth's character throughout the play. It is interesting how Macbeth imagines one thing and does something else, for example, before killing King Duncan, Macbeth argues various reasons to not kill him. Eventually, he kills him. Macbeth also differentiates between his two sides and after committing something evil, his other side haunts him back.

Perpetual ChildhoodOrder custom research paper on Willy Loman

In the dramatic play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the daily life of the Loman family is shown through the eyes and mind of the father. Now a sixty years old discouraged salesperson with nothing to show for a lifetime of hard work, Willy Loman is lead to reminisce on happier times with the presence of his two grown sons, Happy and Biff, back in the house. Reassuring himself that his children would be successful because of their well-built physical appearance, Willy prided himself on Biff's athletic feats especially, ever since Biff was young. Although it would seem Willy was the only one disillusioned by this false hope of success, Biff's athletic status appears to dominate an aspect in his life past his adolescence that seems to trap him in a perpetual childhood.

Biff is introduced into the play nostalgic of his youth, for he is fumbling with an old deflated football as he describes the employment defeats he has had since he left home. Handling a football, a sign of immaturity, seems to show why the only job he has been content with so far has been herding cattle out West, making him thirty-four with little income and no promised future successes. Discussing his lack of a plan with Happy, Biff explains, "I've had twenty or thirty different kinds of jobs since I left home before the war, and it always turns out the same…I'm mixed up very bad. Maybe I oughta get married. Maybe I oughta get stuck into something. Maybe that's my trouble. I'm like a boy" (pages -). Graduating high school with plans to be a professional athlete, Biff is disillusioned when this, nor any of the other various careers, does not pick up and come to him naturally. Admitting it himself, Biff is in fact 'like a boy', for he demonstrates little sense of maturity or responsibility appropriate for an adult.

As he discusses with Happy the reasons behind his failures, Biff realizes he must initiate his own work to demonstrate the maturity of adulthood so as to live up to the great aspirations that Willy held for him. Although he is determined and aware that he is a disappointment to his father, Biff can not come to terms and accept that he needs to take orders from men even over whom he is athletically superior. Discussing a future out West together, Biff explains to Happy, "Maybe we could buy a ranch. Raise cattle, use our muscles. Men built like we are should be working out in the open" (page ). Biff approaches the workplace with a schoolyard mentality believing that his strength alone should gain him success. Although he realizes his embarrassing reputation, his childish mentalities drag him away from creating a steady occupation and home life for himself.

Going from job to job without a set plan, yet physically attractive at the same time, the life of Biff symbolizes the inherent impossibility of Willy's strategy for success. Growing up with his father's morals, Biff is taught that being well liked and athletic are the keys to success. After starring in high school as a football player, Biff continues to live the life of a child athlete with unrealistic goals for life. By doing so and not working his own way up the ladder of success, Biff finds little room for himself in the business world similar to his father, whose life Biff copied, until he realized for himself, the components of living a successful life as an adult.

Please note that this sample paper on Willy Loman is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Willy Loman, we are here to assist you. "Family Portrait" by Pink and "I'm okay" by Christina Aguilera express being hurt by family. The idea is to understand why these two songs are so much alike yet they are different. The lyrics are very emotional because the artists describe the hurt inflicted on them by family. The songs are belted out in such a powerful manner that the audience can only imagine what really went on. While Christina depends on her mother to survive, Pink believes her father can make things well again. Each artist uses their lyrics to explain the hurt they feel even though they are two different, but slightly similar kinds of pain.

In the song "Family Portrait" Pink sings about herself as a child torn apart by the possibility of her parents divorce. The child is hurt by this and does not want her parents to split up. " Can we work it out? Can we be a family? Daddy please don't leave." She wants her parents to work through the problems. It is understandable that the child wants her family to stay together. Certain lyrics in the song lead the listener to consider that the speaker thinks she and her mother are the reason her parents fight. "Mom will be nicer, I'll be so much better I'll do everything right." All children dream of having the perfect family and every young girl dreams of having her father around Pink believes that if her father stays everything will be okay.

It is easy to assume that the pain of divorce is difficult, but abuse is a different kind of pain. In Christina Aguilera's song "I'm Okay" the speaker sings about a pain of another kind abuse. "The song is about the abuse her father inflicted on her as a child and her mother. The lyrics are full of sorrow as she explains horrific things she witnessed as a child. . " Hurt me to see the pain across my mothers face, every time my father's fist would put her in her place." Unlike Pink's song, she sees her father as the reason for the pain. She wants him to know that her mother was her backbone, the person that pulled her through the pain. "Strength is my mother for all the love she gave I'm okay."

In the first verse of each song both artists sing in detail of not wanting to go home. In their eyes they see home as a battlefield where they are innocent spectators, watching their parents fight. They are also the ones who suffer in the long run. In Pink's song the speaker talks about the love she'll never have. "Never knowin what love could be." In Christina's song the speaker talks about the difficulty to allow someone to be close to her. It is apparent that ever since these incidents, these artists are hesitant about who they open their hearts to. They are afraid to let anyone near.

The lyrics are diverse, but the universal meaning is identical Images fade, but the pain remains the same.

She sat alone waiting for her life, dreaming of a new beginning. She sat in a dark, bare, completely unpatterned room. Alone, by herself not even a mouse to have a friendly, up-to-date conversation with. On the floor lay a frayed, antique rug. Red in its glory days but now a murky grey, dull colour; very unattractive. No great qualities to offer, no kind soft remarks to make. Around her as she sat and dreamed of a new sun-filled future were white dust sheets covering a simply delightful writing desk, which looked quite an important worker in its day. The rich looking, ivory cream sofas had been hidden from sight. No one knew why. Why had all the endearing furniture had been banished for all longing, loving eyes to behold?

The girl sat on the rug, the useless rug, wearing nothing but a dull, white, lifeless night-dress. Having awoken from a dreamy - a dream in which she could not remember being in - she sat in this one room. This room which once would have held glorious balls. Wonderful balls with flamboyant, sparkly dresses. The room where memories lie hidden, beneath dust sheets. Why? She often sat in this room. It made her feel old and superior as if she ruled all. Actually it made her feel below everyone, everything, below people, below furniture. They had memories, yes, under the years of dying dust, but still memories. She was old and had done nothing. Achieved nothing.

Suddenly a howl of wind cascaded into the house through the boarded French windows. The crimson and ochre leaves pouring in with force. They wanted somewhere to make their home. This room would have to do. The now full of life dust sheets rose from the chairs as if gravity had decided upon a new angle. The room was suddenly full of colour. Full of everything she had ever dreamed of. The room was calm; suddenly death had been lifted from this room, from earth itself. Inner calm and confidence took over. She had dreamed enough for it to take over. To re-invent life, so as to re-invent herself. To give her hope in her life. All this excitement to fulfil her teenage dreams so long ago, and to create memories; memories of which she longed. Memories which she would achieve tonight. She looked around in awe. What a fantastic room in its time; it was always in their time, their time and her time was now.

The moon gleamed in through the now clear, crisp glass, bouncing off the cleanliness of the room. She paraded around the room. Full of passion, it was now her time. She grabbed the coat stand and proceeded to dance around the room. Caring about nothing except her. She was stunning. She danced for hours her sparkles gleaming, reflecting off the ceiling and walls under glorious candlelight.Cheap custom writing service can write essays on write in any way you wish on the subject of dreams

Then as suddenly as it had appeared her new, re-invented life was gone. It disintegrated; it disappeared from view between her fingers like grains of sand through a sieve. What a life she had had, what an adventure she had discovered, what memories she had finally accomplished. She had a life again. She had lived.

When the Constitution of the United States was first written, our country desperately needed something new. Under the previous form of government, the Articles of Confederation, the central government was a weak one and the states had too much power as compared to the federal government, we needed something more effective.

It was purposed to have a new form of government with strong central power that will be able to enforce laws made by a strong governing power with three branches the executive (the president), judicial (Supreme Court), and legislative (Congress).

Under the Articles of Confederation there was no way to enforce unity between states. This led to competition between states for land and commerce. States made up laws that contradicted laws of another state, they had different currency, and on top of all that for the whole country to go to war every state had to vote to go to war. Under this form of government the states would be unified and make up one country.

To prevent a monarch from developing the people vote on who becomes president in elections, which take place every four years. This is far different from a monarchy for several reasons; we vote for the leader, the leader doesn't have supreme power and terms last only four years.

Order College Papers on Federalist Papers

No person in this system of government is above the law and all the people can be impeached. The president doesn't have all powers for laws, the Congress votes on bills as well. This is where the system of checks and balances came into effect.

Checks and Balances is a system in which each branch of the government monitors the others, thereby preventing the misuse of any powers given to a specific group of the government. For example, if congress passes the president can veto or object the law. However, the congress can override the president's veto with two thirds of the House of Representatives voting to override the veto. The Supreme Court then decides the meaning of a law and determines if that law goes against the Constitution, if it does they can declare it unconstitutional and stop the passing of the law.

The unique characteristics of the American people make it perfect for a democracy. The form of an extended republican government described by the U.S. Constitution will offer the best protection for the individual rights of citizens while having the power to work towards the common good.

Federalism is obviously the only way a nation like the United States of America could prosper. Under this union a strong central government controls the nation, but each state remains independent and has its own organized government. Also, central government's powers will remain under control, but they will also have enough power to maintain peace and regulate commerce. The three-body government allows for a checks and balance system, which will maintain the power of each body and not allow any body to misuse its power. This is an almost ideal form of government.

There are little to no flaws in our government, because each section of government can check each other. This government is like none other of the known world. It is a Democratic-Republic and it will build our nation into a powerhouse. The government is in the hands of the people of the country and that will save it from corruption. In conclusion we feel that the key to success in our country is the Constitution and the three branch system of government.

Quote 1 'Napoleon was a large, rather fierce-looking Berkshire boar, the only Berkshire on the farm, not much of a talker, but with a reputation of getting his way.'

Right from the beginning of the rebellion, the pigs can be seen to be dominating over the other animals and abusing their power. Even when Snowball was there, this exploitation was happening.

The story changes when Snowball was chased away.

Napoleon announced his leadership straight after he set ferocious dogs after Snowball, and so the animals were traumatized and this was the ideal time for no one would oppose him when in a state of shock and terror.Cheap College Papers on animal farm

With no strong opponent left to defy his regime, Napoleon was free to do what he wanted and he used force to do this.

The silly animals adopted the phrase Quote Napoleon is always right.

Allowing, without reprimand, the pigs to get up late, dine from Jones' diner service, live in the farmhouse and to sleep on beds showed how unconcerned or worse powerless, the animals were.

The animals wasted much time building the windmill when they should have been harvesting crops for food in the belief that Napoleon was right. They worked to exhaustion for the false promises and the visions of a better life.

Napoleon gave himself the credit for every good thing such as the building of the windmill, winning the war against humans and fancy titles such as Terror of Mankind, and Protector of Sheepfold.

The executions in chapter seven show clearly that the animals surrendered to the increase in the power of Napoleon in a blind manner.

Quote . . . the tale of confessions and executions went on, until there was a pile of corpses lying before Napoleons feet.

Napoleon outlawed 'Beasts of England' which served as the only memory of Old Major, his views and the rebellion and instead eulogized himself through a poem written describing his great hollow deeds. This was a malicious use of propaganda and was very effective with Squealer's alluring talk.

While the animals bitterly starved, Napoleon sent Squealer to tell them false information and lies about their memories and about Snowball by painting him as the destroyer of the windmill which was the symbol of progress for the animals. This added to his power for what better job can a leader do than to discriminate a criminal.

Quote 4 Whenever anything went wrong, it became usual to attribute it to Snowball.

Napoleon stopped showing in public and had security all the time around him like a king. He had made himself inaccessible, a vital step towards ultimate power.

Napoleon changed in a big way at the end, and shed off the false character of being a leader of animals and became a human. The humans themselves degraded into pigs. If the story were continued, then eventually Napoleon would have got get kicked out and it would all happen again.

Was this inevitable?

The rebellion was doomed to fail from the beginning because

1. Many animals didnt have sufficient education to know what happened on the farm.

. They didnt realize they were being manipulated because they were so stupid.

With the help of Squealer's 'smooth-talking', the blank character of Boxer saying Quote 5 "I will work harder", the puppet-like sheep, the ferocious dogs, the uneducated and ignorant animals and Benjamin, the donkey who would never stand up against him, Napoleon had absolute power and absolute power corrupts everybody.

The Constitution vs. The Articles of Confederation

Our country has always had its way of Government and pertaining factors based on a written compellation of the way the country should be run. The first document that the country was run by was called The Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were instated by Congress, November 15, 1777 and were in effect until March 1, 1781. The Articles of Confederation were then ensued the document that the United States of America have since been established and run by. This document is entitled simply The Constitution of The United States of America, adopted July , 1788, but wasn't in effect until March 4, 178.

The Articles of Confederation was the first government of the United States. It had a weak central government and the basic democracy was based on State control. Although the states had strong control it didn't necessarily bring unity to the whole country. In having a weak central government it made the country susceptible to having no central command. There was no standing army, instead the states had militia. This idea of government had some good qualities but most of them lead for an unorganized country where the central government had to ask the states for taxes and such.Order Custom Essay on The Constitution vs. The Articles of Confederation

The Constitution came about when people began to rebel under the State control. There were several little rebellions which made the need of a new form of government apparent. In 1787 a committee formed to create a new from of government. This committee met from may to September of that year debating on the ideas of a new government. Different plans for a government were brought up but they all had fundamental flaws. Finally Benjamin Franklin came up with the Great Compromise which stated that the upper house of Congress (The Senate) should have equal representation from the states while the lower house (The House of Representatives) should have representation according to size and population. It took awhile for the thirteen states to finally agree to this but they, the representation of the states in committee finally signed as the new document of government on September 17, 1787. After The Constitution was agreed upon there were ten amendments made which formed a document which is now referred to as The Bill of Rights.

The Constitution and The Articles of Confederation are a like in some ways but in others are widely different. Some of the basic ideas form the Articles of Confederation influenced The Constitution and The Bill of Rights such as Articles of Confederation Article and the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The Constitution goes through the parts of government in great detail. The focus of The Constitution is on having a strong central government and less state power which is the direct opposite of the basis of The Articles of Confederation.

The Constitution has been in effect since then and has only had seventeen amendments made since the first ten. It's interesting to think that our country and the way we function as a whole is based on a document written in the 1700's. This document is well formulated and is definitely effective..

Maya Angelou is a very triumphant woman. She has written many

books and poems that have given her great success. If one would talk

to her, he or she would think she has lead a normal, happy life. Her

life is blissful now, but it wasn't always perfect. Maya Angelou's

Custom Essays on Maya Angelou - The Person and Poet

sorrowful life experiences inspired her to write autobiographical

works of poetry.

Maya Angelou was born April 4, 18 as Marguerite Johnson in St.

Louis. She was raised in segregated rural Arkansas. She came from a

broken home. Angelou was raped at eight, and was an unwed mother at 16

years old (Williams 1). In spite of her tragic childhood, she still

managed to become one of the greatest black poets of the twentieth

century (Williams 1).

Angelou is a poet, an author, a historian, an actress, a

playwright, a civil-rights activist, a producer, and a director. Ms.

Angelou began her career in drama and dance, and she married a South

African freedom fighter and lived in Cairo. Later she also taught in

Ghana. In the 160s she said that being black, female, non-Muslim,

non-Arab, six foot tall, and American made for some interesting

experiences during her stay in Africa (Williams 1).

Ms. Angelou accomplished many things in her life. She was the

northern coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference

at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She was also appointed

to the Bicentennial Commission by President Gerald Ford, the National

Commission on the Observance of International Womens Year by Jimmy

Carter, and in 1 she wrote and delivered the presidential

inauguration for President Bill Clinton.

Maya Angelou is a decorated author. She has been nominated for

two Emmy awards and has won a Pulitzer Prize. She is also a highly

cultured person. She can speak English, French, Spanish, Italian, and

West African Fanti. And many of her poems can inspire people today.

Knowing something about Angelou's life can help one to understand her

poetry.

In one of Angelou's poems, "Unmeasured Tempo", she talks about a

person's life. How mind and body do not reach their apex at the same

time. By the time a person gets old enough to have a spiritual

realization of who they are their body is already declining (Angelou

11). This poem is written in blank verse. It does not have any rhyme

or rhythm. Yet it does use figurative language. For example, the

simile, "Dreams are petted like cherished lap dogs". This poem is

complex and makes the reader look for the deeper meaning in the poem

(Angelou 11).

Another one of Angelou's poems is "Little Girl Speakings" where

she once again writes autobiographically. It's a comparative poem

about the things important to Angelou in her childhood. She is

explaining to one of her peers that she has the best parents and the

best toys(Angelou 65). There are a lot of literary devices used in

this poem. The two most obvious ones are slang and repetition. The

phrases "Ain't nobody better's my daddy", "Ain't nothing prettier'n my

dollie", and "No lady cookinger than my mommy" are repeated in this

poem (Angelou 65). The rhyme scheme, ABBA, is simple yet unusual.

There are many words that rhyme like quauter and daughter, said and

head, and pie and lie (Angelou 65).

This morning, Caesar, highest senate member of Rome, was found dead in a pedestal in an abandoned city home. Rome was thrust into panic as patrolling Praetorians found Caesar¡¯s body.

Caesar appeared to have died from multiple stabs to his abdomen. He was apparently killed en route to the Senate House, under the statue of Pompey, and the murderer dragged his body away from the scene.

Rumors of a radical group calling themselves the ¡°Conspirators¡± was behind the assassination, but Praetorians police department found that the fingerprints found on Caesar were those of Mark Antony¡¯s, Caesar¡¯s right-hand man and most trusted general. Antony and several other suspects are now being held by Praetorian secret police for further interrogation, motives for murder is not yet known to the public.

Calpurnia, wife of the late Caesar, claims that her husband had not wanted to go to the Senate House because of various suspicions of assassination. Artemidourus, one of Caesar¡¯s loyal supporters, claims to have tried to warn Caesar about the trip to the Senate House. ¡°I tried to show him the letter of the wicked Conspirators,¡± Artemidourus said, ¡°but ay, Caesar had more important things on his mind than a lowly supporter like me.¡± Also, several loyal soothsayers, all have been detained for questioning, have also predicted and warned Caesar about the date of his murder.Cheap University Papers on Slaying of Caeser (article)

Despite the many reasons to stay home, Caesar was still somehow temped by senators Brutus, Cassius and Casca for the trip. It was always known that the senators¡¯ jealousness of Caesar¡¯s authority and their fear of his growing power, these senators are also suspected of first-rate murder and have also been detained.

Caesar¡¯s bodyguards claimed to have seen Cassius eyeing Caesar in a ¡°predatorish¡± manner the day before his death, but no one could have thought that Brutus, Caesar¡¯s trusted friend, would also commit such a crime. Nevertheless, evidence points in a different direction as Brutus¡¯s servant boy saw him several times in conversation with ¡°Conspirators¡± members Cinna, Decius, Metellus and Trebonius.

¡°It was the senators! It was they who murdered our beloved Caesar!¡± Antony claimed during interrogation. He said that when he arrived at the murder scene, Caesar was already dead at the sides of the Senators, but whether his words are believable could only be decided on the trial that have yet to be announced. Antony seemed to be driven mad by Caesar¡¯s death and raved continuously about revenge on the senators. Caesar¡¯s funeral will be held tomorrow in the city square of Rome, and Antony had requested to speak at the funeral, but the request depends on his continual sanity.

Cassius and Casca have implied during questioning that Brutus was behind the scheme. ¡°We are just the followers of noble Brutus.¡± Cassius explained. Noble Brutus has yet to break under the Praetorian¡¯s questionings. Chief of Police announced, ¡°Senator Brutus seemed to have accepted his actions. We do not know why the loyal friend of our beloved Caesar would choose to murder him, but Brutus did nothing to deny his taking part in the assassination. Of course further interrogation will be done before we accuse anyone of murder.¡±

We will keep you updated as we receive more news.

Character and Human Understanding

"It's not about saving all of them. It's not about saving a lot of them. It's about changing and reforming some of them. If we can dig deep enough and understand at least one of them than maybe we can change them. It's not about saving them all, but if we can at least save one, then it's all worth It." -- Tim McManus Oz Television Show

Mankind has never been fully understood and it probably never will. It's a species that questions it's own fate and yet simultaneously creates it's own destiny in the process. So do we define mankind as a whole? If we do then we must take the good with the bad. We admit are bright past along with are dark and derive a meaning from that. But even if we take into account all the past events do we still have an accurate depiction of human character. In the black and white spectrum the answer would be " yes," however in the author's opinion it would be no.

Long before Martin Luther King so eloquently defined character as the means to be judged rather than skin type, we as a society have come to define character as your action. Is that really all there is to it? Can there be something else lying beneath their actions that expresses truly who they are? In the story "Paul's Case," by Willa Cather, we see a troubled young boy whose actions express a truly negative existence but through the eyes of the narrator we see a passionate young boy with thoughts and ideas but guidance. Paul is a round and flat character and his actions and passions show this.Custom writing service can write essays on Paul's Case character essay

In the beginning we find Paul sitting before the principal and various schoolteachers going over the terms of his suspension. We get the impression from the smirk on his face that he isn't the least bit upset by the event and were also quick to notice that his teachers are quick to judge him and write him off as a lost cause. The narrator talks about his past actions when he nearly struck a teacher who touched him and how he's spread a wave of fear amongst the faculty. It's also noted that the lackadaisical attitude he possesses throughout the entire hearing leads the faculty into deciding that he's nothing more than a troublemaker and that he has no real intentions of correcting his attitude. It's concluded in the beginning of the story that if he's a flat character, he a bad one at that.

At the next event we encounter Paul, working as an Usher at a Local concert. We can't help but notice the passion he has for artistic forms of expression. He conveys how every tune from an instrument makes him feel alive in a way he's never felt before. He is also kind and courteous to the patrons. It becomes clear thereafter that Paul does have interest in life and that he simply has no guidance in how to manifest these talents. It also becomes clear that this lack of inner direction could be his ultimate flaw and prevent him from accomplishing anything in life.

As a society, we are obsessed with judging people by their actions and sentencing them by our opinions. It's absurd to believe that were truly capable of understanding a person under every situation. The clichholds true that you can't judge someone until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Paul situation is an exact replica of the previous statement because even though his actions show him to be flat his thoughts and ideas show him to be round and much more than that.

Summary of Corts

This reading, Letters from Mexico, has many different parts that I thought were quite interesting, some of which related to our text, and others which differed slightly. This paper will single out a few key points, such as Corts' actions and logic, as well as comment on my opinion of the reading. I will also compare the material of the reading to that of the text.

Letters from Mexico consisted of Corts' letters to His Sacred Majesty, forming a communication line between himself and the Emperor. Even though Corts was severely delayed due to travel, he was very "up-to-date" on his writing. During the letters, Corts explained his reasoning and logic for each action. The letters proceeds to provide information on how far each location or colony was from the previous and included information about the inhabitants he ran into along the way. Corts was very detailed in each of the letters, sometimes going on for more than a page on one person or place. He also tried to include his feelings, his crew's feelings, and any other feelings or attitudes that were involved to get the whole situation fairly reenacted.

I found that throughout this reading, Corts finds multiple ways to defend his actions, even if he was in the wrong. He knew he was defying the emperor, but he defends the actions were noble and trustworthy, done for the good of Spain and not for self acknowledgement. Corts also knew how to satisfy the emperor's fancy for gratification. For example, he begins with "…MOST HIGH AND POWERFUL AND CATHOLIC PRINCE…" and also comments "…Your Sacred Majesty…"Cheap University Papers on Summary Of Cortez's Letters

I have different opinions on this reading. After reading it many times, I still have not decided whether or not Corts was being sincere when explaining his actions. In some instances, I felt as though he was "giving lip service" or humoring the emperor, to gratify himself in the emperor's mind. Corts seemed to have mastered the art of playing mind games and strategizing against the opponent. He was a very talented manipulator, who always seemed to get his way. One fault I felt he had was his sense of timing in decision making. Many times throughout the reading, I felt as though Corts made a hasty decision. For example, one of Corts' men had to convince Corts to let him go talk to Mutezuma, before attacking. If this soldier did not offer, Corts would have attacked, and the alliance made with Mutezuma would have never happened. This is where I feel Corts' strategy failed him.

The reading and the text are very similar in the subject of the Spanish Conquest, but I feel as though the text was too generalized and narrow. The text concentrated more on Columbus' discovery of America, The Fall of the Incan Civilization, and the Aztec Civilization struggle with power, rather than Corts conquering. In fact, the text concentrates on some of the people Corts attacked, but does not mention his particular standing and participation in the Conquest.

In conclusion, Letters from Mexico expanded my knowledge on the Spanish Conquest, clarified my understanding of the military thinking processes involved, and opened my eyes to the manipulation and trickery included in this time frame. The reading was parallel to the text in the idea of generalized Spanish Conquest, but the text was not given enough details for my liking.

The Waves of Ska Music

Music is a way a generation can express itself. For a generation of suppressed and restless people living in Jamaica, this voice of music was known as ska. Since its original appearance, ska has resurfaced twice. Ska music has been presented to three generations of fans in three separate waves. This music may have started out humble, but it is now one of the most influential styles of music in the world.

Since the early 140s, Jamaica has adopted and changed many forms of American musical styles. The people of Jamaica took a liking to rhythm and blues music, thanks to imported American records. Businessmen hooked up small sound systems consisting of radios, turntables, and speaker boxes. These portable sound systems provided entertainment at dance halls. Owners of different sound systems competed against each other at these halls. Two individuals, the deejay and the selector, ran the sound systems. The deejays job was to introduce each record and to enhance the rhythm of the music by chanting along with the record. Selectors chose records and used the controls to increase or decrease bass, treble, or volume. Musicians picked up on the elements of the rhythm and blues and combined it with traditional Jamaican mento music. The result was the first wave of ska.

Musically, ska is a shuffle-rhythm close to mento but even closer to the backbeat of r&b. In my opinion, being a guitar player, it's on a 1 - bar blues scale. The after beat is strummed by a rhythm guitar or played on the piano. A horn section, usually consisting of trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, is vital to the music. In the beginning, skilled musicians began to team up. Songs written about the ghettoes, street thugs, and romance were prevalent, however, religious themes could also be found in the songs. In 165, ska slowly transformed into another type of music, rock steady. Rock steady was more dependent on the rhythm, the bass guitar, and the drums than ska was. For the meantime, ska was the new style sweeping the country.Custom Essays on The Waves of Ska Music

After ska had been developed in Jamaica, artists traveling to Great Britain exported it. Ska became known as blue beat. Early British punk bands were into reggae, a style of music that came from rock steady, into their music. Bands began to use ska instead of reggae because it had a better beat. This faster paced ska came to be known as two-tone. One of the messages of two-tone ska was racial harmony. One of the symbols of two-tone was a cartoon character, which was a man in a black and white suite. The use of black and white in the drawing was supposed to symbolize the peaceful coexistence of different races. The attitude of ska music has always been about having fun in the face of oppression.

The third wave of ska began around 10 in America. Bands influenced by the two-tone ska scene began to use more punk and metal music. The combination was much faster than two-tone, and sounded very different from the original Jamaican brand of ska. The sound has transformed much since its birth. Bands such as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Operation Ivy, and No Doubt have successfully revived the entire ska scene.

In its three phases, ska has given voices to seemingly voiceless generations. Each time it comes back, a new message is taken up; however, the old messages have not been forgotten. Ska has influenced many things including fashion, antiracism, social classes, as well as other music. Ska originated in a small, poor country, yet it went on to spread throughout the world.

I am going to be talking about the company that filed for the largest bankruptcy of all time, and that is the American energy company, Enron Corp and who was responsible for it. The reason I have decided to speak on Enron is because it was indirectly responsible for many other corporate collapses. This graph gives shows us how it effected other companies.

Immediately after the bankruptcy, most people began to speculate that their bankruptcy was a result of their accountants, and their inability to detect and rectify the situation. However, as the investigations into the bankruptcy got under way it became clear that it was not only the accountant's responsibility but also the responsibility of many other important parties of the company including, the CEO, The Board, Management, Shareholders', Bankers and Lawyers.

The most obvious blame belongs to the CEO who had the overall authority and responsibility for management and financial reporting. A CEO cannot claim to be doing his job and to be ignorant of accounting fraud, at least not in the same sentence. The CEO may not have produced the bad accounting numbers but he must not encourage, tolerate or be ignorant of those who do. After all, the highly paid CEO's job includes the responsibility to oversee accounting functions.

The board of directors in any company is responsible for creating a system of corporate governance. After many investigations into Enron were carried out it became clear that The Board of Enron had failed to set a system of good corporate governance. Many professionals believe that they should shoulder most of the responsibility of the bankruptcy because of not doing so. Write your The Enron Failure research paper

Shareholders must shoulder some of the blame. Exuberance and greed had propelled share prices to unreasonable and unsustainable levels. Management was often forced to live up to irrational capital market expectations. Since, these expectations could not be met through actual results, they were, with a little help from friends, achieved with reported results. This unrealistic share price as illustrated in the graph kept everyone happy ... for a while, especially during year 000. After that it was a case of management needing to find a way to pay the bank back, but they couldn't find one and then restated their earnings on route to bankruptcy. This is how different their net income looked when first reported and after it was restated.

Banks, investment bankers, and speculators also played a major role. They knew how much money passed through their machines. So when the company posted earnings that were non-existent, they could have asked, where did those earnings come from?

Lawyers and law firms involved with the company were as culpable as anyone else. They did not cover themselves with glory and did nothing while to stop the crookedness that was going on.

By now it should be crystal clear that the enron failure and many other corporate failures were the results of stupidity, greed, dishonesty, self-interest, fraud and incompetence by all the members of the company collectively and not just the accountants. I mean come-on its obvious, as obvious as saying a dog barks. Yet the accounting profession has been a scapegoat and its very future put into doubt.

In conclusion all I can say from an accounting perspective is that and I quote The United States Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, Harvey L.Pitt. Begin quote "A strong accounting profession is key to our capital system, but it should be the responsibility of every accountant to ensure that they carry out their tasks with a minimum level of professionalism." End Quote.

Westwood

It was a right turn onto a dusty gravel road. Chocolate colored fences lined the drive and neatly divided paddocks, from which the horses watched the white van as it drove towards the barn. I was there for my first jumping lesson and as the arena came into view, I realized it would be an exciting one. It was Westwood Stables and it was straight out of the horse books I had poured over as a child. I was twelve years old and Westwood was the most amazing place I had ever seen.

There were gigantic trees in a half moon shape around the edge of the property with the important house of horses in the middle of the moon. To the left was the arena, circled by the same chocolate colored fences that lined the drive. The painted brick jumps, covered in fake flowers, were set at odd angles throughout the sand filled enclosure.

On the opposite side of the arena sat Glenn and Kelly's house; a tiny, doll-like house, with a yard that obviously did not get as much attention as the students and the horses they trained. They had chain link fence that kept their dogs in check; though they were running loose that day. Behind their house grazed the tired, old schooling horses. The ones reserved for the young kids and the scared adults. They weren't much to look at, but they all had the heart to take care of their delicate riders.

The magnificent barn stood proudly in the middle of it all. The stairs that led up to the door were old railroad ties, completely out of place amongst all the perfection; but once inside the door, the stairs were forgotten. The office had the musty smell of a grandmother's house; a moth ball mixture of moldy leather, and the sweat that made it that way. Here is where the ribbons were displayed, the shows for future ribbons were posted, and the pictures of it all happening were hanging. The meeting room for trail rides and a resting place for the weary. There was a dust covered window for viewing the inside arena and couches to plant tired bodies. The floor was covered in chunks of dirt left by the boots that ran through it and the corners of the ceiling caked in cobwebs. The door that led to the inside arena was heavy and it shrieked when it was opened, but it was the door that led to heaven. A large indoor arena was directly out the door, its rails littered with saddles left by their lazy riders. This large sand filled indoor ring was used for a quick warm-up before you headed out, or for lessons when the weather wouldn't allow anyone outside. Large grooming stalls stood on either side of the arena, with every brush imaginable hanging in perfect rows along the walls and thick mats laid on the floor for comfort. A huge door on the right side opened to the sun soaked outside; and to the left, was an unnaturally clean stable aisle with rows of beautiful horses on either side. The stalls holding the horses were great steel enclosures, big enough for the largest horses to have plenty of room. There were fans hung from the ceiling in all the stalls as well as automatic fly spray floating down from the sky at regular intervals. The shine from the horses' coats suggested the horses these stalls held were owned by people completely devoted to them. The constant nickering and rustling of hay told you the same thing. At the end of the aisle there was another great door that opened onto more content horses grazing peacefully in a large pasture.

When I took all of this in for the first time I truly believed I would never see a more perfect place. As I grew up, of course I realized this wasn't the case, but to this day nothing has been as special as Westwood was to me when I was twelve.

Animal testing has truly made a tremendous impact on the medical field today. We owe it all due to the experiments that have been done on animals. Through test and experiments that have been done on them, many cures and medicines have been discovered. Animals are important liabilities in the medical field. Without their existents, many discoveries and possibilities may not have been. Due to these experiments, in the article, "A Scientist I Am The Enemy", the author explains that "I saw children, alive and healthy, thanks to advances in medical science such as infant respirators, potent antibiotics, new surgical techniques and the entire field of organ transplantation"(8). Although activists argue that these animals are tortured and brutally killed for no reason, they also try to persuade the public into thinking that researchers are only doing these experiments for their own personal advancements. They also try to persuade the public into believing this by waving posters and pictures of animals that have been killed. On the other hand, they don't show the pictures of children who have died or are dying of diseases and disorders. Because of animal experiments like these they now can be cured.

Activists suggest that there may be other ways that researchers can find cures and medicines that they needed. First, they suggest that research could be done on humans in a sense of trial and error. Secondly, they suggest using computer models to test and do their experiments on. Finally, they suggest just leaving it all alone and in a way just letting whatever happens, happen.

Activist suggest using humans as subjects in experiments to do their test and experiments on. If the medical field did decide to do this, say for instance they wanted to test the effects of a type of drug, what if the effects from this drug were too strong or it didn't agree with the human and it killed them? That life is destroyed and every time a new drug was discovered we would have to go through the same process over again. Isn't the human life of more value than this? What about the moral issues that are involved?

Activists also suggest that computer replicas be used. Perhaps making a complete copy of a human being and doing the experiments on. This would be ideal, but not reliable. "Computers can stimulate, reasonably well, the effects of well-understood principles of complex system. as in the application of the laws of physics to airplane and automobile design. However, when the principles themselves are in question, as is the case with the complex biological systems under study, computer modeling is of little value (Karpati 84).Custom writing service can write essays on "The Life Not Valued"

Finally, activist have suggested that we should just leave it alone, meaning that we should just let what ever happens, happen. This would mean that medicines, surgical devices, and cures that we may one day advance from just all be left alone. Hoping that one day they might be accidentally discovered (Karpati 84).

In conclusion, activists show pictures and they tell stories about innocent animals dying , but what about the lives of all human beings that are dying each and every day? People are dying because of sicknesses and injuries that have been inflicted on their bodies, waiting for researchers to find cures and medicines to threat them. These animals are not being tested and researched for nothing. They are actually making a way for human life to go on. Aren't the lives of humans more valuable than just letting them die all for the sake of those sad pictures that the activists so sadly display.

Snowboarding, possibly the most dangerous, most frustrating winter sport. If you want to be a snowboarder, you have to be tough. Tough enough to take the falls because sometimes you could crash so bad that you could die or have serious injury. If you didnt already know, Snowboarding is a winter sport in which the rider is strapped to a snowboard using a binding to hold yourself on. When first starting out with Snowboarding, you first need the equipment.

First of all you need a snowboard. Most freestyle snowboards run anywhere from 10 cm.-180cm. When you are Snowboarding you need a board that is anywhere from your chin to your nose. When first starting out with Snowboarding you probably want a board that is a little bit shorter because shorter boards are easier to control and to do tricks with.

The next thing you need are boots. There are basically two different kinds of snowboard boots. Regular and step-in. Step-in boots are supposed to be easier to take on and off the binding but the regular boots have more support. Snowboard boots run a little bit smaller in size than a regular tennis shoe and are pretty much the same thing a a plain old snow boot. In fact, I have seen people ride down the mountain with regular snow boots. The real only difference is that snowboard boots are much stiffer than a regular snow boot.

Now for the bindings. Most bindings are very similar but very different in a way. You can choose between a step-in binding or a regular binding depending on what kind of boot you purchased. Some people prefer step-in bindings just to be able to put them on quicker and take them off faster when going on and off the lift. Other people prefer the regular bindings because the have more support on your feet and are more dependable. I personally prefer the regular bindings because the give you way more support and they arent as much of a hassle as step-ins. Step-ins might be quicker but they are a pain in the neck. It never seems like they are on properly. The rider needs to make sure that his boots fit properly into the binding or else disaster could happen.

The next item of business is getting your clothing and safety equipment. Generally you want to have three layers when gliding down the mountain. These layers include one inside layer for warmth. One middle layer for insulation. And one outside layer for wind and water resistance.

The next equipment you need is your safety equipment. Safe may not be cool but is dying or seriously injuring yourself cool? I dont think so. One of the most important safety items is your brain and if that gets hurt, than you are pretty much done for and can't make smart decisions anymore. So to protect your brain, you need a helmet. I know helmets haven't been very fashionable in the past but now they are better than ever. The designs, the material, everything.

Beginning snowboarders would be smart to wear wrist guards and knee pads when first starting out. This would be smart because when you are first experimenting with snowboarding, to force yourself to fall a lot and most of the time boarders land on their wrists and their knees.

You not only need safe equipment but also a safe sense of where your going and to be cautious and prepared for the unxpected because the unexpexted can always happen. When your are crossing a traverse or intersection, always look both ways because some careless skier or rider could be coming fast down the mountain and could not look where they are going. Snowboarders always need to look up and pay attetion to their surroundings or else they could be in deep trouble with both them selves and other skiers and boarders.

Snowboarding takes place whereever skiing does however, in the 180's, only 10% of ski resorts let snowboarders into their
